Break Through the Notions of Everyday People

A Disciple in North America

A human concept always holds that whatever appears in my head is a result of my intelligence and abilities. Master says, “It is very easy to manipulate an ordinary person’s mind.” (p. 123, Zhuan Falun, 1999) Where exactly does our every thought and concept come from? Does it come from our accumulated life experiences, from postnatal education or from our congenital self? Or is there intervention from other factors?

While we are sending forth righteous thoughts, we indeed eliminate those inappropriate influences that interfere with our minds; at the same time, the sacred side of ourselves is growing stronger. Nevertheless, when we hurt our heads in deliberate thinking, in spite of the tremendous time and effort expended, the idea produced may not be correct.

“There is so much urgent work to be done that it almost feels as if your eyebrows are on fire. Why are you still sitting here sending righteous thoughts?” Such a mindset is not uncommon among practitioners who are busy working for Dafa. We need to free ourselves from a mindset of “doing things” to integrate doing things for Dafa within Fa rectification. In the process of transforming from a human to a divine being, we need to pay particular attention to break through an everyday person’s concepts and deviated notions. Society has developed in such a way that everyone has taken for granted the hustle and bustle. We assume that only constant busy-ness can lead to the desired or deserved attainment. All of society has been thrown into this bustling attitude, which is not meant for humans. Our minds should reject this “busy,” external concept, an evil fruit on the material path taken by humans. “Minds are calm; fortune and longevity are both present.” (“Give up Attachments,” in Master Li’s Hongyin).

Indeed there are many things to do for Dafa, and offering salvation to all sentient beings is an urgent task, which calls upon us to utilize all possible time to actively do things for Dafa. Therefore, we are busy, but only on the surface. It is a big ordeal for us to cultivate a calm and peaceful heart with a pre-occupied mindset and to be able to do things for Dafa while placing ourselves within Dafa. It is also an aspect to establish mighty virtues on the part of Fa rectification disciples. A busy person, yet a worry-free heart. An everyday person talks about “ complete body-and-mind involvement” in conducting a big undertaking, whereas we should be “whole body-and-heart melting into the Fa,” in the course of which the Fa’s arrangement can day-by-day bring you a multitude of changes. For instance, a free time slot can suddenly appear in our busy schedules to allow us to have a heart-to heart talk with a predestined person. In this situation, if one cannot get rid of an everyday person’s concepts, he may feel squeezed by time and complain, look here: I am so busy that I can’t make time for you. He may then quickly give up, letting go of a precious, predestined opportunity.

In his “Lecture at the Great Lakes Conference in North America”, Master said, “No matter what you do for Dafa and no matter what it is you're doing, you are placing yourselves in Dafa and not thinking about ‘I want to do something for Dafa’ or ‘I want to improve myself in this way or that way’ as you did before. No matter what you do, you aren't thinking that you're doing something for Dafa, about how you should do things for Dafa, or ‘how can I do things well for this Fa.’ Instead, you are placing yourselves within Dafa. Like a particle of Dafa, you feel that no matter what it is you should do, you just do it.”
