Take a Seat

Xin Sheng, a Dafa Disciple from Mainland China

[PureInsight.org] This September, I started using my daughter’s company vehicle to pick up and drop off my grandson for school. There are five vehicles in total, and each has a sign at the front stating: “No Seat Reservation Allowed.” However, people seem to ignore the rule and continue reserving seats daily as if they can’t read.

In past years, there were even heated arguments over seat reservations. A similar incident occurred this October. An elderly man placed his bag on a seat to reserve it, but after school, a sixth-grader moved the bag to the luggage rack and sat in the seat. When the elderly man returned to find his reserved seat occupied, he was displeased and asked the child where his bag was. The child’s response was too quiet, prompting the man to ask again loudly. Frightened, the child started crying. Later, the child told parents, who escalated the matter by posting in a WeChat group, claiming the elderly man had scolded their child and even sharing their home address, challenging the man to come over and argue.

This caused quite a stir, drawing the attention of the company leadership. They intervened by asking drivers to emphasize the rule: if someone reserves a seat three times, their riding privileges would be revoked. Some drivers enforced this rule, inspecting for reserved seats and placing any bags they found on the luggage rack. However, most drivers avoided taking action to avoid conflict. As a result, people adhered to the rule only on the strictly managed vehicles, while continuing to reserve seats on the others. This reflects the general decline in moral values today.

As a Dafa disciple, I believe we should not conform to the ways of ordinary people. I never reserve seats. Every afternoon, I arrive a little early to clean the vehicle. I carry my bag and sit only after tidying up. If I don’t find a good seat, I sit at the back. Seeing this, some passengers look at me with curiosity—some with praise, others with disdain, and some in disbelief.

In this complex environment, it’s not easy for a Dafa disciple to do well. For instance, when I clean the vehicle, I avoid asking passengers to lift their feet to prevent dissatisfaction. Even when fewer people are present, I ensure they’re willing to let me clean under their seats. Once, a woman advised me not to sweep because it would stir up dust. I immediately agreed and picked up the trash by hand, collecting a full bag. Another time, an elderly man pointed out various spots for me to clean, saying some areas were still dirty. I followed his instructions and cleaned everything. When he realized I was not a hired cleaner but a fellow parent, he was surprised and became silent.

Over time, he got to know me. One day, he remarked, “You’re different from others—you have high moral standards and are a good person.” I replied, “Everyone should strive to be a good person. Only good people are blessed and live long lives.” He agreed. Similarly, an elderly woman often gives me a thumbs-up whenever she sees me, and I return the gesture with a smile.

Master has taught us that compassion in human society manifests as kindness and care, which reflect the innate state of a Dafa disciple. Master wrote in A Wake-Up Call, “Compassion is expressed in this world through love and kindness, and these are qualities that those who practice Dafa should always radiate from within.” I strive to follow Master’s teachings, improving myself and inspiring others through my actions. I hope to show people that goodness and selflessness still exist in this world.

In nearly three months, my behavior has positively influenced some passengers. Half of them now dispose of their children’s trash properly, and the vehicles have become much cleaner. During this time, I clarified the truth to a passenger and helped her to quit the CCP. This person now recites the nine sacred words (“Falun Dafa is great; Truth-Compassion-Tolerance is great”) daily and has seen remarkable improvements in her health, despite being in the late stages of cancer. I also shared traditional stories about the law of cause and effect, emphasizing that only good people will endure through calamities.

On the vehicles, I silently send forth righteous thoughts, recite the Fa, or listen to Minghui Radio. Sometimes, I subtly clarify the truth about Dafa to passengers, as my workplace is connected to the military and public discussion limited. Gradually, the righteous energy field of a Dafa disciple has influenced the environment, creating a more harmonious atmosphere.

Moving forward, I will continue to follow Master’s guidance, do better in saving those with predestined relationships, and help more people understand the truth. In this challenging environment, I will strive to cultivate myself well and return home with Master, fulfilling my mission.

These are my personal reflections. Fellow practitioners, please kindly point out any shortcomings.
