In the past when clarifying the truth to Chinese people, I often used answering this one question that they always ask me as the starting point. Somebody would ask, “How come you haven’t returned home for a visit after couple of years in America?” or “When do you think you will return to China?” I usually used this opportunity to clarify the truth by saying, “I haven’t planned on going back yet, because Falun Gong practitioners are persecuted harshly and cruelly. Even practitioners from America were detained and even beaten upon returning to China.” I thought that by not initially mentioning Falun Gong but, rather, doing so indirectly was a very inclusive way to do this. I thought borrowing the subject and letting the people know how the evil is persecuting practitioners was an effective way to clarify the truth.
Today I phoned my mother and father. First I was chitchatting with them, and I also talked about how I’ve changed through cultivation. They were listening, conversing with me in a light-hearted manner. My mother said she missed me very much, and asked when I would come back home. I immediately replied, “How can I go back now? The persecution is heavy and serious; I would be arrested right away upon returning.” I immediately sensed that my mom was tense and worried. I therefore changed the subject and did not speak about anything regarding Dafa.
I realized afterwards that my mother’s fear was reinforced by the tainted messages of my words. My response reflected an appearance of a weakling who needed pity and help, rather than displaying a form of firmly upholding the truth, and the greatness of a cultivator who can let go of his life for the Truth. But I left her with the impression that we are afraid, an impression on which the evil thrives. This not only not diminished my mother’s righteousness, but also added to her feelings of fear. If I hadn’t emphasized how much suffering practitioners have received, but, in stead, emphasized how, in the mist of this brutal persecution, practitioners still firmly cultivate because of their righteous belief, and how they display great compassion and tolerance while upholding the truth, I think it would have inhibited my mother’s fear and reinforced her righteousness.
I have found in other Chinese people, including those inside China, representatives who have come to America, and Chinese people outside of China, that fear obstructs them from coming to know Dafa and the truth about the persecution. This prevents them from having the chance to listen to the truth and to obtain the Fa. This also applies to practitioners who gave up cultivation because of fear, choosing the wrong path.
I feel that this “fear” is a very evil tool that the old forces use to control people. It also forms a very evil field in the human world. When you start to fear, it’s giving this evil field a place to stay and nourishing it. It strengthens this evil energy field. And it will, thereby, control you even more. When you suppress it, getting rid of this fear, you are suppressing this field. When you suppress this field, it will no longer be able to control you.
Also, there are other deformed notions, used by the evil, old forces to obstruct people from righteously coming to know Dafa. They aim to destroy the cultivation of Dafa disciples. We “completely oppose everything arranged by the evil old forces” (“Dafa is Indestructible“), including in ourselves. We need to clean out these deformed notions and other evil factors.
My understanding is that letting people know about the brutal persecution isn’t the final objective. Rather, using this persecution to allow people to recognize which is good and which is evil clears out the lies, which are manifestations of evil. At the same time the actions of Dafa disciples during the persecution will let people see the great compassion and tolerance of Dafa disciples- their indestructible state. Hearing this they will thereby witness and respect the greatness of Dafa, and maintain a righteous mind towards Dafa. This way the person can be saved. Revealing the evil, clarifying the truth, letting people have the right respect towards Dafa, while helping people form righteous thoughts is the only way people can really be saved.
