Rainbow in Manhattan: Personal Encounters while Selling Tickets for the Chinese New Year Spectacular in New York

campaign for the 2007 NTDTV Chinese New Year Global Spectacular has
started. Again it will show the glorious divine culture of the east and
the five thousand years of magnificent Chinese culture. More
importantly, it is a show to save people. A total of 15 individual
shows will be performed and seventy thousand people will be able to
watch. Each of the total 70,000 tickets is to be sold by the New York
Dafa practitioners. All New York Dafa practitioners will need to
participate in selling the tickets and each practitioner will need to
squeeze time to learn how to sell tickets. Recently, many practitioners
have already gone to the streets, the Chinese community, and to large
mainstream corporations. This report is about some touching true
stories.



In Front of Broadway Theaters

Mr. Wang has found a job in New York recently and he is ready to move
the whole family to New York from Boston. Based on their experience
last year selling tickets in Boston, they found it was very effective
to distribute flyers in front of theaters where people were in line to
buy tickets. People who go to the theater are the theater fans and
lovers of plays that they are most likely to go to see the show. Mr.
Wang is very busy, but he goes to distribute pamphlets whenever he
finds time. He only sleeps for three hours each night. Mr. Wang puts a
bunch of flyers in his backpack after work and takes the subway to get
to a theater at 47^th Street and Broadway.



The high-rise buildings glowed under the setting sun in Manhattan. Mr.
Wang walked towards people in line in front of a theater to buy
tickets, his heart filled with gratitude that was hard to describe.
Among people of different skin colors, he saw the longing of the
deepest feelings of life and lives that have been waiting for the Fa
for many lifetimes. They were waiting for this day, hoping Dafa
practitioners would bring the most important message to them.



Regardless of his English pronunciation, every glance and every smile
revealed his love for sentient beings. In just a few moments, he had
distributed many flyers. People who received them read them seriously.
Some came to ask for flyers themselves.  When he had only one
left, a police office walked towards him and told him: "You can't
distribute those here. Go elsewhere." Mr. Wang gave the last flyer to
the police officer. Mr. Wang realized suddenly that there were many
theaters on Broadway, so wouldn't there be many people waiting to
receive flyers? After he got home, Mr. Wang listed the main theaters to
let other Dafa practitioners to go there to distribute information. Now
many Dafa practitioners are distributing pamphlets in front of these
theaters and the effect is very good.



Forgetting about Worries and Happiness

Xiao Juan is a delicate and elegant girl. During the last few months,
carrying a heavy backpack filled with material, she walked all over the
city to sell tickets every day. In the first few days, Xiao Juan went
out every day. Some days it was windy and rainy, she felt cold and
hungry. Frequently, she didn't sell many. After a few days, she felt
frustrated.



One day, when she was just walking out from a company, it started to
rain. She wanted to sell more tickets at several other companies so she
walked in the rain without an umbrella. When she came out of the two
companies she had visited, she felt very uncomfortable because people
there had treated her coldly. She then remembered it was late in the
afternoon and she hadn't eaten anything. Being soaked with rain and
wearing a pair of worn-out shoes, she saw people in Manhattan were
hurriedly brushing by her, with their minds bustling about for money.
She thought of herself working so hard and not making any money. Even
though she had paid attention to her appearance, she felt mistreated
and wanted to cry. She felt lonely and lost her confidence to visit the
next company. She thus found a place to sit down and thought of calling
her husband. As she sat listening to the sound of the rain and watched
the busy crowd around her, she felt a sense of wandering around. She
recalled the section from Zhuan Falun
about wandering around in society and how difficult it is and how a
cultivator must always treat oneself as a practitioner and take care of
relationships with others, upgrading xinxing.



Xiao Juan looked at her watch; it was only three in the afternoon.
There was still enough time to visit two or three more companies. She
put on her backpack and walked into the rain and continued to do what a
Dafa practitioner should do. She recited silently:

As she kept reciting, she felt a righteous field filling her whole body.



Saving people is very urgent now. Two months has gone by since Xiao
Juan started selling tickets in Manhattan and show time is getting
closer. Xiao Juan sped up her pace. She told others: "I have forgotten
my happiness and worry. Besides making phone calls, I go out every day
to sell tickets. I even dream of selling tickets some nights." Such a
pure mind! I was really touched when I heard her story. When Dafa
practitioners participate in validating Dafa and doing the three
things, it is the Fa that brings us up to a higher level. From the
surface, we are making great effort, but when we follow Dafa to do
things, Teacher cleans up the bad thing in our bodies and gets rid of
our human notions so that we walk towards the path of a god's state.



Not Just Selling Tickets

Xiao Juan continues to sell tickets all over the city. In US, it is
difficult to see the people you want to see without an appointment.
Some companies may not even let you enter their offices. It often
difficult to get an appointment with people you wants to see. One may
need to wait for some time even to get an appointment and it might be
too late. Since there is not much time left, Xiao Juan just went to
visit companies without an appointment.

 

One day, she went to the head office of a well-known company to see the
public relations manager. When she went upstairs to inquire about the
person, a lady told her: "It is impossible to see that person without
an appointment. Even if the manager is in the office, she may not have
the time to see you. Please leave and don't waste your time here." Xiao
Juan didn't leave; she knew that Teacher was giving her a hint. I can't
waste precious time for saving people. I must see this manager. When
she calmed her mind and started to send forth righteous thoughts to
eliminate all the evil elements from interfering with her saving
sentient beings. As soon as she fixed her mind on the thought, two
gentlemen walked out from an office. They asked her when they saw Xiao
Juan: "Whom are you coming to see? We may be able to help you." Soon a
woman walked out and they exchanged business cards. Xiao Juan then knew
she was the PR manager she wanted to see. She thanked Teacher in her
mind. After listening to Xiao Juan talk about the New Year program, the
manager indicated that she would buy some tickets to give to their
suppliers as gifts for the holiday.



High-rise buildings are everywhere in Manhattan. Once, Xiao Juan walked
into a building to sell tickets floor by floor. When she entered an
office, before she had a chance to make introduction, an
African-American lady said to her excitingly: "I missed last year's
show and I have been waiting to see this year's show." She bough eight
tickets for her family and relatives. Xiao Juan was happy for them as
the show has a deeper inner meaning. It brings people good fortune and
even greater benefits for their lives. Why does Teacher bring his
disciples and pay such a big price to create the show? We are not just
selling tickets here.



One day when Xiao Juan went to a bank and walked straight to the
manager. She introduced the Chinese New Year show to the manager. As
the manager listened attentively, Xiao Juan went from the New Year's
show to the persecution of Falun Gong by the Chinese Communist Party.
The manager then asked: "I used to see the cruel torture exhibits on
the street. Why they are not there any more?" Xiao Juan silently told
him in her mind: "Am I not in front of you? It is only a different way."



Saving the Precious Chinese People

Xiao Ye has long hair and lively big eyes. She goes to the Chinese
community to sell tickets every day in her busy schedule. She usually
brings with her a loose-leaf binder, with material about the show on
one side and truth-clarifying material on the other side.

She has often encountered all sorts of questions every time she tries
to sell tickets to Chinese people. She found it was difficult to sell
tickets when people didn't know the facts. For example, one time when
she went to a store, the storeowner told her: "We like the show, but
because of Falun Gong is involved in politics, we don't want to buy any
tickets." Xiao Ye clarified the truth to them patiently. She told them
that the NTDTV New Year show was to showcase Chinese culture and Falun
Gong was a group of practitioners cultivating
Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance. The Chinese Communist Party (CCP)
has cruelly persecuted Falun Gong and has caused the deaths of more
than three thousand Falun Gong practitioners. During the last seven
years, the situation has gotten worse. Recently, a member of Canada
Parliament and a human rights lawyer investigated the harvesting of
organs from living Falun Gong practitioners and sent their report to
the United Nations. Xiao Ye showed them truth-clarifying material and
pictures. They were shocked when they saw the pictures and said how
could the CCP be so cruel? Xiao Ye also told them a story of her
colleague at the Epoch Times who suffered the cruel torture personally.
When Xiao Ye was to leave, they told her: "Thank you. We will consider
buying the tickets."
