In 'Teaching the Fa at the 2001 Canada Falun Dafa Cultivation Experience Sharing Conference', Master mentioned, "When we eliminate evil you should keep in mind that if you have the intention of showing off, have ordinary human fears, or have impure thoughts, you won't be able to achieve the goal. Why do you have an ability like this? It's only because you are a great cultivator that you have an ability like this. So when you send out that thought it couldn't have been sent by anyone but a great cultivator." Think about this: what then is the thought of a great cultivator? If we examine our inner minds from this perspective, it's not hard to see that 'the bad thoughts in our mind, karma, and bad notions or external interference' should be eliminated before we send forth righteous thoughts.
A scene appeared in my head as I was sleeping one day. I clearly saw that both my son and another, unknown, boy were in danger and they were waiting for me to save them. In the extremely critical moment, without thinking I first saved the unknown boy who was closer to me while my son was in danger. Finally, without a care for myself, I went back to save my son using every bit of strength I had left. Eventually all of us were out of danger. Upon awaking, I felt weak at my knees momentarily - what if I could not have saved my son in time? At this moment, I suddenly understood that this is a test from Master, a test to see how selfish I was in that single thought. In such a dangerous situation, it can be said that I did somehow manage to pass that test. Because when I had the thought of saving people, I was selfless in giving and could treat different beings equally. This also made me realize that to have a great thought one must attain the state of selflessness and altruism.
