Discard the Attachment of Berating Others

[PureInsight.org] Not long ago, my wife (a Dafa disciple) had a series of sickness symptoms: a cough, runny nose, fever, diarrhea, etc. At first, she didn’t pay much attention, as she had been cultivating for 15 years. She thought that since the state of eliminating karma had long passed, it must be interference from the old forces. As long as she didn’t acknowledge it, that should be enough.

However, after eight days, there was no improvement. On the contrary, some symptoms got more severe, especially the diarrhea. She had diarrhea seventeen or eighteen times every day. (Of course, a cultivator is different from ordinary people. If an ordinary person had diarrhea like this, he/she would be severely sick.)

In the evening, we burnt incense for Master, and then we sat down in front of Master’s picture to study the Fa. Afterward, we looked within and shared experiences.

We found many attachments. Of course some were my wife’s attachments and some were common to both of us. Here, I just describe the attachments related to this article: the attachment of showing off, combativeness, anger, berating and showing disrespect to fellow practitioners.

Master said in Zhuan Falun, “to keep yourself under control—unlike an everyday person who would mess things up—you should always maintain a heart of benevolence and a mind of kindness. If you suddenly bump into a problem, you will be able to take care of it properly. When you always maintain a heart of benevolence and compassion, you will have time or room to buffer the confrontation and think, should a problem arise suddenly. If you always think about competing with others and fighting back and forth, I would say that you will start a fight with others whenever there is a problem—this is guaranteed. Thus, when you encounter a conflict, I would say that it is to transform your black substance into the white substance, de.”

In the scripture “Further Understanding,” Master said, “Do you realize that as long as you’re a cultivator, in any environment or under any circumstances, I will use any troubles or unpleasant things you come across—even if they involve work for Dafa, or no matter how good or sacred you think they are—to eliminate your attachments and expose your demon-nature so that it can be eliminated, for your improvement is what’s most important.

If you are able to succeed in improving yourself this way, what you do then, with a pure heart, will be the best and most sacred.”

A fellow practitioner, let’s call her “A,” was in our city. She and her husband obtained the Fa before July 20, 1999. They both cultivated diligently. After July 20, they validated the Fa in various ways. Later, all of sudden her husband passed away. The old forces used this method to interfere with practitioner A. Although on the surface A wasn’t swayed by this and she continued to validate the Fa (even leading two Fa study groups: one in the afternoon and the other in the evening), she didn’t let go of some attachments.

My wife talked with practitioner A about A’s attachments several times. It would be fine for a practitioner to remind the other practitioner of the attachment. If the two practitioners could point out the attachment kindly without any human notions, the results would be great. However, my wife had the human notion of disappointment with practitioner A. My wife used a commanding tone and berated A for not stepping out of the bad state. My wife’s not considering other people’s feelings was caused by the Communist Party culture. It was really a dirty human notion!

After studying Master’s Fa, we found the crux of the problem. We were grateful that Master let us be rectified in the Fa. My wife felt warm and light.

The next day my wife was back to normal.

This is cultivation. The path of cultivation doesn’t allow any deviation, neither does it allow going to extremes. A fellow practitioner in our city once made an analogy (of course this was just his own understanding at his level), and I felt the analogy was vivid and it made sense to some degree. He said that Zhuan Falun was the “heavenly ladder” that Master left for us to go to heaven, and Master’s other lectures and articles were the “handrails” of the “heavenly ladder.” Only when we keep studying the Fa, keep studying Zhuan Falun and the other lectures and articles, can we walk on the path of returning to heaven without straying to the left or to the right.

In closing, I would like to use Maser’s article, “New Year's Greetings from Master,” to conclude this article:

“A Happy New Year to all Dafa disciples around the world!

While emerging from the hardship, while saving the people of the world, and while becoming more clearheaded and mature, you have come through another year. On the rest of the journey, may you fulfill, with godlike righteous thoughts and righteous actions, the grand vows you made before history!

The endless journey has come to a close

And the pervasive haze is gradually dispersing

While righteous thoughts display the might of Gods

Returning to Heaven is no longer just yearned for”
