[PureInsight.org] Benevolence News is a publication that reports the facts about Falun Gong and China's persecution against Falun Gong. Since its inception in September 2002, more than 700,000 copies have been published and circulated.
As an editor of Benevolence News, I recently received a letter from a reader that touched me. It made me realize that people will feel deep sorrow when they see this persecution for what it is.
This reader had received a copy of Benevolence News from a Falun Gong practitioner at the Sun and Moon Lake in Taiwan during the Chinese New Year holidays. In his letter to me, he wrote that he felt great sorrow when he read the newspaper: "What especially touched me were the special reports on pages four and five and the list of depraved people who were persecuting Falun Gong practitioners. Revealing the three depraved people's photographs and crimes was practically a prosecution statement written in blood and tears. I didn't want to cry in front of my family, but when I wrote this letter, I couldn't stop my tears," he wrote.
Shocked and in disbelief about the persecution, he also wrote, "For Heaven's sake, when will the Chinese Communist Party stop its tyranny? Who will rescue those unfortunate people whose rights are being trampled on? Are there any human rights in China?" He questioned why the Chinese Communist government was so eager to eradiate the kind and peaceful Falun Gong practitioners.
After reading such a heart-felt letter from a reader, I thought to myself, "We must reveal the names and the crimes of those who participate in the persecution of Falun Gong. We must also let people know that we are cultivating in Falun Gong to be good people and that we only wish to be free to cultivate in Falun Gong. That is all we want to do and we have no other, ulterior, motives." I realized from reading this letter that people's hearts will shine like gold when they understand the facts of the persecution.
Benevolence News originated from the simple idea of helping people understand the facts about Falun Gong and China's persecution. We try to keep our facts-clarification materials on a par with the progress of Fa-rectification and to meet the goal that the Clearwisdom editors suggested in "To Fellow Practitioners," updated on September 7, 2002: "We should make our facts-clarifying material so that, after being given out, people are happy to read it and pass it from one person to another, reaching a chain-reaction and unstoppable result."
The editors' vision for this newspaper is to let everyone in the world know the facts about Falun Dafa. In order to achieve this goal, I have mailed Benevolence News to Chinese consulates and liaison offices worldwide. In addition, many fellow practitioners bring Benevolence News with them to foreign countries and distribute them all over the world. They are moving toward the goal of letting the whole world learn the facts about Falun Dafa.
We have received letters from Taiwanese and Swedish people who express an interest in learning Falun Gong, priceless suggestions from a professor at the National Tsing Hua University in Taiwan, and letters from overseas Chinese in Canada who shared their personal experiences as victims of the persecution. In their letters, people express their common need to know the facts.
While Falun Gong practitioners around the world were filing lawsuits against Jiang Zemin in rapid succession, we published two special editions of Benevolence News to cover the breaking news. Once, when I was on my way to mail out the special editions, people came up to me to ask about Falun Gong. While I was answering their questions, I felt a benevolent force come over me.
Before we publish an issue of Benevolence News , we determine the emphasis of that issue according to our understanding of Teacher's most recent Fa lectures. We also take into consideration the important reports on Clearwisdom.net. In this way, we can ensure that Benevolence News meets its purpose of clarifying the facts.
When the article "Expose the Evil Happening Locally to the Local People * With Master's Comment" was published, I realized we must keep up with the progress of Fa-rectification. Although Benevolence News is published in Taiwan, it is connected to all Dafa practitioners worldwide. Therefore, in the next issue of Benevolence News , we devoted a full page to expose the perpetrators and their crimes against Falun Gong practitioners in almost all labor camps across sixteen provinces in China. We included these perpetrators' names, positions and phone numbers.
The feedback I received from Taiwanese readers helped me realize that I must keep up with the progress of Fa rectification and do the facts-clarification work well according to Teacher. We must continue to tailor the content of Benevolence News to the needs of Fa-rectification because the newspaper's goal is to clarify the facts. We editors see our role in Benevolence News as helping fellow practitioners to create facts-clarification material. To attain that goal, we strive to publish a lightweight newspaper with the most update-to-date facts-clarification material that is also rich in content. We listen to fellow practitioners' feedback in order to make improvements. We editors see our role as supporting and complementing the facts-clarification work.
Although we didn't have any resources to start with, we have managed to publish every issue of Benevolence News on time. Teacher has given us an opportunity to walk our own paths, so we must treat our work solemnly and walk our paths well.
