Falun Dafa Practitioners' Cultivation Diaries (6)

Nan Shan

[PureInsight.org] A group of Falun Gong practitioners in Toronto rented a bus to go to Ottawa which is the Capital of Canada. The purpose of the trip was to welcome the Chinese Premier Wen Jiaobao's during his visit to Canada, to publicly call for the end of the persecution against Falun Gong and to bring Jiang Zemin to justice. (See "Wen Jiabao Continues His Visit to Canada, Falun Gong Practitioners Appeal in the Rain (Photos)" for details.) We arrived in Ottawa in the early morning, and spent the entire day standing in the rain and wind, clarifying the truth about Falun Gong and the persecution against Falun Gong to the Chinese delegation groups. Then we left Ottawa for Toronto at the end of the day.

Half way home, the bus driver took a 30-minute break for dinner. I bought a fast food dinner. I carried my food tray to a corner area to seek solitude. But as soon as I settled myself at the table, a tall young Caucasian man approached and asked politely, "Nan Shan, may I sit here with you?"

"Please have a seat." I replied. It was Jason and it had been a long time since I last chatted with Jason. So, I did not mind his company at all. Jason took the seat. I looked at his hands and asked, "Jason, you have now become an engineer. How come you are not wearing the Iron Ring?" I know for a fact that every engineer in Ontario wears the Iron Engineering Ring. [Note: The Iron Engineering Ring and the Ritual of the Calling of an Engineer are traditions in which all engineering graduates in Canada are invited to participate.]

"Oh, I did not attend the Ritual of the Calling of an Engineer this spring, so I do not have an Iron Ring yet."

"Why didn't you attend the Ritual?"

Jason beamed, "I went to Geneva and attended the Falun Gong forum during the 59th annual session of UN Commission on Human Rights. That's all right. I will get my Iron Ring at next year's ceremony."

Jason then changed the subject, "Let's speak Chinese, shall we?"

I know that Jason has a good command of the Chinese language. Three years ago I heard him singing a traditional Chinese folk song called, "Horses Prance About on the Mountain." He sang without any western accent.

So we started to converse in Chinese. When Jason said the word "Xi Gua" (watermelon) in Chinese, I asked curiously, "Do you know what "Dong Gua" (wax melon) is?"

"East melon," Jason answered immediately.

I burst into laughter. Jason is very clever. At least he did not translate it as "winter melon." Jason knows melons are summer plants.

[Note: in Chinese, "Xi Gua" (watermelon) is made up of two Chinese characters, west and melon. "Dong Gua" (wax melon) is made up of two Chinese characters, winter and melon. In Chinese, "winter" and "east" have the same sound.]

I have known Jason for five years. When I first met Jason and his twin sister Christina, they reminded me of angels. The twins have blonde hair and blue eyes. They have very beautiful and delicate facial features, and they are also elegant and pure. I could not help marveling at the creator's masterpieces before my eyes. The twins were already in search of a cultivation school when they were still in high school. They might have already felt at that time that men and women are only transitory visitors to the earth. Perhaps they wished to seek an eternal life, profound wisdom, and great freedom. They eventually found Falun Dafa and started to cultivate themselves in that system and conduct themselves according to the principles of Truthfulness, Compassion, and Tolerance.

Jason has been cultivating in Falun Dafa for six years. In the past six years, he has grown from a shy and childish teenage boy to a fully-grown man with an athletic build and broad shoulders. In the past six years, he has finished high school and college, and is now a professional engineer. Moreover, Jason has established for himself a rather accomplished and touching Fa-rectification cultivation path.

Since Jiang Zemin's regime started to openly persecute Falun Gong on July 20, 1999, Jason has been traveling far and wide to urge good people worldwide to help end the persecution. To help end the persecution against Falun Gong, Jason has held and hosted many press conferences for this cause all over the world, including Toronto, New York, Washington, DC, Geneva, and even the control center of the persecution, Beijing, China.

During the Chinese New Year of 2002, Jason, then an engineering student at the University of Toronto, went to Beijing with another Falun Gong practitioner Levi. Jason deftly evaded the monitoring by the armed forces, police, special agents, and plainclothes police, and invited several internationally renowned western media to a press conference. Jason and Levi held the press conference in a hotel near Tiananmen Square to reveal the truth about Falun Gong. At the press conference, he played a video analysis of the Chinese Central Television Station's (CCTV) own footage of a self-immolation act in Tiananmen Square. The frame-by-frame analysis of footage revealed that the alleged Falun Gong practitioner, Ms. Liu Chunling, died of a deadly blow by a heavy object, and not from self-immolation. Another alleged Falun Gong practitioner in a supposed self-immolation act, Mr. Wang Jindong, sat on the ground in a standard military pose. He was not able to put up both legs on top of each other or one leg on top of the other, in the sitting meditation positions required of a Falun Gong practitioner. Many other flaws in the footage proved that the self-immolation incidents at Tiananmen Square were carefully planned hoaxes directed by Jiang Zemin and his henchmen.

After the press conference, Jason went to Tiananmen Square and unfurled a banner that read "Falun Dafa is Great" and "Self-Immolation is a hoax." While being chased and beaten by the police, he showed no fear. He called out in Chinese "Falun Dafa Hao" (Falun Dafa Is Good.)

In October 2002, while Jiang Zemin visited the United States, Jason and many Falun Gong practitioners from many countries around the world gathered in Chicago outside of the hotel where Jiang Zemin was staying and protested the persecution against Falun Gong. On the opposite side of the street stood the group that the Chinese Consulate in Chicago had hired with money to welcome Jiang Zemin. When Jason saw that the hired Chinese across the street watched the Falun Gong practitioners with the indifference or even hatred that the Chinese government has instigated with their poisonous lies, he could not stop his tears. He started singing out loud the song "Coming for You" in Chinese:

Coming for You

Crossing over thousands of mountains and millions of rivers, I came for you over and over again
I came because of my love for you
Precious Chinese people, please carefully listen to these words from my heart
Falun Dafa is good. Falun Dafa is good.
Do not ever believe in their deceitful lies.

Enduring violence and danger, I came for you over and over again
I came because of my love for you
Precious Chinese people, do you know that the entire world says
Falun Dafa is good. Falun Dafa is good.
Do not miss this once-in-a-billion-years' opportunity.
Do not miss this once-in-a-billion-years' opportunity,
This once-in-a-billion-years' opportunity.

Initially, the Chinese people across the street were surprised to see a westerner singing a Chinese song. While the hired Chinese people were listening to Jason's singing, their facial expressions softened as Jason had touched their heart. Tears filled the eyes of many people.

In November of 2003, Jason, now an engineer, testified as a plaintiff witness in front of the Quebec Superior Court of Canada in a lawsuit against Les Presses Chinoises for its slanderous articles against Falun Gong. In his testimony, Jason talked about the physical and spiritual benefits from practicing Falun Gong and how he has became more considerate of others since he began to practice Falun Gong. Jason also presented a statistical chart indicating the frequency of the slanderous words against Falun Gong in Les Presses Chinoises. This effectively refuted Les Presses Chinoises' defense of "objective reporting." Even the austere judge did not hide her approval of Jason. She said, "You are clearly a good engineer. Only an engineer can put together a chart that is so elegant and unique."

Now, Jason was joining many other practitioners to a hurried overnight in Ottawa. Amidst the cold wind and freezing rain, they have shown the Chinese delegation groups visiting Canada the banners that read "Welcome Wen Jiabao to Canada," "Bring Jiang Zemin to Justice" and "Falun Dafa is Great." Their singing of "Coming for You" enveloped the Parliament Hill as Wen and his entourages were arriving there.

"Precious Chinese, please listen to these words from my heart. Falun Dafa is good. Falun Dafa is good. Do not ever believe in their poisonous deceits."

I saw that Jason singing along with the accompanying music from the large speakers. As I watched him sing, my face became wet. I could not tell if they were raindrops or tears on my face.
