Welcome, ladies and gentlemen, to the First World Future Science and Culture Congress. This is the first meeting of its kind ever. And we are very pleased you have come here to listen and discuss the application of the principles of Falun Dafa to a new approach to science and culture. Practitioners of Falun Dafa believe that “Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance” is the fundamental characteristic of the universe and try to assimilate to this characteristic in all aspects of their beings, including their scientific and cultural endeavors. An outstanding collection of scientists, scholars and creative artists from many parts of the world have converged on this preeminent Cambridge University this weekend to tell you and show you how this principle can open up new vistas in their fields. They come from such diverse areas as biology and medicine, physics, architecture, economics, and music, to give just a few examples.
Today, we will start with formal platform presentations with short question and discussion periods as time permits. Tomorrow, scientists and scholars in many diverse fields will display their work on posters that you can view and also discuss directly with the authors.
Some of the work presented here over the next two days will deal with the convergence between leading edge ideas from various fields and concepts from the teachings of Mr. Li Hongzhi, the founder of Falun Dafa. Other papers will describe novel applications of these teachings to scientific and cultural fields. In either case these are early steps in the progression towards a new science and culture that is based on “Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance.” Notice that the term is said all at once, not broken up into individual concepts. That reflects the necessity for all three together at once as different facets of the same universal reality. The new science and culture are not limited by preconceptions. Surprising observations that do not fit in with conventional theories are not just discarded or ignored but, instead, carefully examined with unfettered interest. Those who are establishing the new science and culture believe that there are ways of knowing that are not limited to the five senses and the instruments devised by men. The new science and culture are not limited by being totally bound up in materialistic concerns because that is ultimately self-defeating and nihilistic. Amoral, unprincipled application of technology that ignores the harmony of the universe is a pathway to catastrophe. Instead, scientific and cultural endeavors should be considered in the light of their assimilation to Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance. These are some of the principles of the new science and culture that will be explored over the next two days here in Cambridge and for a very long time throughout the world afterwards.
We invite you to share in the sense of discovery that imbues those who are establishing a new paradigm. We look forward to discussing our work with you and hope will take home with you, perhaps, a new perspective and a new model for science and culture that you can begin to apply in your own area. Perhaps, even better, you will choose to deepen your understanding of the principles of Falun Dafa so you too can be one of the pioneers, one of the leaders, in establishing this new golden age for science and culture.
