Discoveries About Group Fa Study

A Dafa Disciple

PureInsight | March 25, 2002

The practitioners in this area have had different expectations toward group Fa study and experience sharing gatherings. We had tried many ways to make improvements in our Fa study environment. We shared concerns about the increase in numbers of participating Dafa practitioners, the time limit, and the diverse backgrounds of practitioners, factors that all had made it difficult to satisfy the needs of each and every participating practitioner.

Two days ago while I was pondering the root cause of the problem, suddenly I thought of the following Fa from the first chapter of Zhuan Falun, “The space of the universe is benevolent to begin with and embodies the characteristics of Zhen-Shan-Ren. At birth, one is assimilated to the characteristic of the universe. Yet as the number of lives increases, a collective form of social relations develops in which some people may develop selfishness and gradually their level will be lowered.” My mind became very clear. Why was the effectiveness of group Fa study reduced with the increase in numbers of participating practitioners? Apparently one of the contributing problems was the mentality of selfishness from select individuals. The increase in numbers of participating practitioners for Fa study and the time limit were merely external environmental factors. The root cause was the impurity in thoughts from some practitioners.

I will use myself as an example. I have displayed attachments to selfishness and ego during group Fa studies and experience sharing gatherings. These attachments bred many selfish ideas, which I often overlooked and thus they became magnified. For instance, I often found the topics of discussion boring. Sometimes I felt the speakers didn’t understand the Fa as much and as thoroughly as I did, or I had understood that level of the Fa a long time ago. Sometimes I felt I had not learned from any speaker what I expected to learn. I was reluctant to pay attention to anything new practitioners had to say. Sometimes I did not think much of the facilitators of the group study. Sometimes I felt indifferent to everything going on in the group study. These were manifestations of my own attachments to my ego and selfishness. Apparently any unrighteous thought will contaminate the energy field of a group Fa study. Hence, a large group of practitioners with these attachments in a Fa study gathering will surely contaminate the effect of group Fa study and experience sharing. It is not a simple task to remove our attachments to selfishness and ego, but we must try.

The above is my recent discovery of shared attachments manifested in the group Fa study. Please be so kind as to offer your feedback.
