Master mentioned many times that we should study the Fa with a calm mind and without any notions. Whether or not we are able to do so is really a very serious problem, a crucial one, for a cultivator and determines whether or not he can indeed elevate himself in Fa-study to return to his true self. We all understand that we should keep breaking human notions during our cultivation. Actually, the same applies to Fa-study.
Why can the celestial eyes of children under six years old be opened with a few words spoken by Master? The reason is that children have no notions. Why do some practitioners spend a lot of time to study the Fa but improve slowly, and still cannot catch up with Fa-rectification, or even enlighten to an evil path? It is because they hold on to their attachments and notions while studying the Fa. Just like the optimal state for transforming gong in meditation feels like staying in an eggshell, the most effective way for Fa-study is studying the Fa with a calm mind and without any notions. Master asked us to study the Fa more, but we cannot think that simply spending more time on Fa-study is good enough for us to upgrade our levels. This is not being serious about the Fa. Changing our mind nature is the most important. Actually, it’s hard to attain a good result if we merely superficially spend more time on Fa-study, without understanding the Fa with our heart and its connotations taught by Master. It also shows that we don’t realize the importance of cultivating our xinxing. If we do so, then we are indeed the same as those cultivators in remote mountains and deep forests who searched for the external solutions by separating themselves from ordinary society and waiting for time flying by to get rid of their attachments. So, our effectiveness of Fa-study is very low.
Master once talked about the principle that gods on very high level consider Tathagatas also as ordinary people. When a cultivator has reached the level of Tathagata, gods on even higher levels think that he still has lots of human notions and impure thoughts. Many Dafa disciples’ lives originate from a much higher level than that of a Tathagata. That means that they need break through many more levels to return to their origin. Yet, after we study the Fa and upgrade to a certain level, if we can’t give up the way of thinking of that level, or if we become attached to the principle we enlightened to on that level, we will still hold the notions of that level in studying the Fa, which will stop us from ascending further. For example, when I read Master’s article “A Dialogue with Time” the first time, I understood that Master was telling disciples how to make diligent progress. Yet, after upgrading my level, I understood that Master was teaching the Fa to the god of time who was deviated and rectifying him. I understood Master’s infinite mercy based on rationality. To study the Fa without any notions in the first place means to study the Fa with our hearts, not our eyes. Only by doing this can we understand rationally the connotation behind the words and also Master’s infinite mercy rather than attaining only superficial perceptual understandings. If we rid ourselves of this superficial perception will we indeed attain the motivation to cultivate diligently from the Fa and become a true Fa-rectification disciple with righteous enlightenment and righteous actions.
