[PureInsight.org] The most significant experience that I have gained from this year’s Shen Yun promotion work is that I didn’t hold on to any of my own notions when helping to promote the show. I simply tried my best to cooperate well with others. I didn’t develop any attachment to the number of tickets being sold. Throughout the whole promotion process, I just kept one thought: “There will be absolutely no problems with the ticket sales for this year’s Shen Yun show!”
My main task was to distribute Shen Yun brochures and post Shen Yun posters around the city. Even though I passed the examination for Shen Yun ticket sales training, I didn’t participate in a single ticket sales event. However, the ticket sales training helped me greatly with my Shen Yun promotion work. Master said in the poem “Following Master” from Hong Yin (III):
“Massive, powerful figures,
they gathered for the Great Current
Assuming different social statuses
and different occupations
Dafa disciples are one body
Following Master in Fa-rectification,
working against sinister tides”
There are many different tasks involved in the promotions for Shen Yun. Some people are selling tickets, some are soliciting commercial advertisements, some are doing marketing and some are distributing flyers, etc. I’d like to share with everyone some of my personal experiences from my flyer and poster distribution work for Shen Yun this year.
Ever since we started Shen Yun promotions this year in our city, I have continued my flyer distribution work without a single day off. During the last month of promotions, I had been doing flyer distribution and putting up posters on almost a daily basis. Amazingly, I did not feel tired at all. During weekends, I would spend about 8 hours doing promotion work, while during the weekdays I would spend around 4 to 5 hours each day distributing flyers. Afterwards, I would go to the New Tang Dynasty TV station to do my work there. I didn’t miss anything on both the Shen Yun promotion front and my NTDTV work.
I have also noticed a miraculous phenomenon while distributing flyers. Whenever I experienced some bodily discomfort, I would inevitably fall down on the ground or bump into something. As soon as I fell down or bumped into something, my discomfort would immediately disappear. Once I had a migraine, but as I was walking along I hit my head on a steel rail near a garage door, and my headache disappeared right away. Also on several occasions, just as I was starting to feel a little bit tired while walking, I would suddenly trip and my fatigue would disappear as soon as I stood up. I now realize that all these occurrences were the manifestation of Master’s almighty care and protection of me. It seems that I have fallen down or I have bumped into something, and they appear like bad things, but as a matter of fact, they are all good things happening to me.
Usually, I would distribute around 700 to 800 flyers; sometimes I would distribute more than 1,000 flyers each day.
Master said in “Teaching the Fa at the Assistants’ Fa Conference in Changchun”:
“In the past, ancient people did things very quickly. They could walk a hundred li* a day, and horses could travel one thousand li. They didn’t lie. Their thoughts were relatively simple and focused. They would follow one path when doing something and give their all to do it well. They meant what they said. If they promised something they would fulfill it for sure. That’s how human beings should be. Nowadays people don’t keep their promises. They do things while trying to please everyone. In the past, people’s thoughts emerged from their minds like a road—a straight line—on which they moved very fast, whereas nowadays people try to please everyone.” [*Translator’s note: li is a Chinese unit of distance equal to 1/3 mile or 1/2 km]
I have noticed that whenever my mind is void of any human notions and when I can keep my thoughts clean and pure, I am able to walk very fast while doing the flyer distribution work.
Of course, I also encounter tribulations. Once, two senior ladies who had come together with me to distribute flyers began to complain that they couldn’t move anymore after distributing around 100 flyers. The two ladies went home shortly afterwards. I was both surprised and anxious. The distribution assignment for the day over that particular area was thus unable to be completed in time. After returning home, I started to vent my frustration. I knew that my heart was not in the right state, but I still couldn’t control myself. Later on, I realized from looking inward that I was simply too anxious, and I also had a show-off mentality whilst trying to finish the flyer distribution as soon as possible.
Very soon, Shen Yun will perform in our city. Everything is moving so fast. Master said in the article “Dafa Disciples Must Study the Fa – Fa Teaching Given at the 2011 Washington DC Metro Area Fa Conference”:
“There has been a great deal of groundwork done in advance. All that’s missing is your carrying things out with righteous thoughts.”
Master also mentions in the article: “20th Anniversary Fa Teaching”:
“Working hard is part of your cultivation.”
My personal understanding is that even though the groundwork has already been done in advance everywhere, there are still tribulations and blockages along the path of our cultivation. We need to exercise the power of our righteous thoughts and work hard to overcome and break through all the obstacles in front of us. Only by doing so are we able to walk well our final path that has been arranged by Master. In conclusion, I’d like to share the poem “Stirred by Reflection” to give us more encouragement:
“After ten years of trials and tribulations,
Lotuses fill the courtyard.
A rainbow of colors,
Illuminates the heavens.
One’s purity is seen,
After the adamantine will is fully tempered.
True thoughts dissolve all,
The whole sky is clear.
Disciples of Fa walk the earth,
Compassion they bring.
With kind thoughts they save people,
Evil specters they vanquish.
Righteous thoughts each step of the way,
Divine beings are present in this world.
When they return with full bounty,
The multitude of gods shall receive them.”
