[PureInsight.org] One afternoon I went to take a bath and ran into a former coworker. I asked her: “I heard that our old boss had become sick. Have you paid him a visit?” She replied: “I haven't.” She then started to list out his various shortcomings. I had never heard of all those things she mentioned. After she finished I added: “Our boss was really unfair in acting like that.” At that moment I was the same as an ordinary person, and I was pretty self-righteous about it—I was totally not in line with the Fa.
When I was sleeping that night, the left side of my face and gums became swollen. It was incredibly painful. Things got better after I sent forth righteous thoughts and recited the Fa for a while. But by the latter half of the night my face swelled up again. This time sending forth righteous thoughts didn’t alleviate the pain; trying to resolve the problem with compassionate thoughts didn’t have any noticeable effect either. Only when I did the exercises the following morning did it begin to ease up.
At noon the next day I went out with a fellow practitioner who told me something about two overseas Dafa disciples. In my mind again arose all manner of unrighteous, ordinary people’s thoughts. When my daughter called that night, we ended the call on a bad note because of my attachment to some matter of hers. I was muddling around as an ordinary person the whole time and my thoughts and actions were completely divergent from Dafa, yet I didn’t even realize it. Thus that night, my gums and face were severely swollen again. There was a deep pain whenever I clenched my teeth. It hurt all the way until 6 PM the third day. From 7 PM the second day to 6 PM the third day I was in constant pain. During that time I neither completed the exercises nor sent forth righteous thoughts, and my Fa-study was only sporadic. It was truly unbearable, so I visited a fellow practitioner. As soon as I entered the door that practitioner asked, “What’s wrong? Your face is swollen.” I said: “I can’t pass this test, it’s too painful.” At the time there was another practitioner present. Both of them said: “Hurry up and find out what attachment it was that surfaced.” With this advice, I thought back to the events mentioned at the beginning of this test. At the time, all I said and did were the words and actions of an ordinary person. The practitioners then said: “As a practitioner, when encountering a problem it is necessary to immediately look within; as long as your thoughts are in line with the Fa’s standards, that attachment shall disappear. We cultivators need to be in the Fa at all times; however Master directs, is the way we shall act.”
Once I had removed my attachment I began to spit out globs of pus. Then my gums returned to normal, my cheek became less swollen, and my mouth could open properly again. Everything was more or less back to the way it was beforehand. At that I said, “How amazing!” The fellow practitioners remarked: “Dafa can accomplish anything.”
This was a major lesson for me. I truly came to understand: As a cultivator, we must at all times watch our every thought, word, and action and act in accordance with the Fa. At the same time I grasped Master’s words: “For a cultivator, looking within is a magical tool” (“Fa Teaching at the 2009 Washington DC International Fa Conference”).
In sharing my experience today, I advise anyone undergoing something similar to judge it according to Dafa’s standards instead of using an ordinary person’s mindset. I would also like to express my deep gratitude to the two practitioners who helped me enlighten!
