[PureInsight.org] The Canadian branch of the prominent American online newspaper The Huffington Post published on August 3rd an article by columnist Peter Worthington. The article covered investigations done by former Canadian Parliament member David Kilgour and Winnipeg human rights lawyer David Matas, who obtained first-hand evidence of mainland Chinese Falun Gong practitioners having their organs forcibly removed.
The article also stated that Falun Gong was a kind of slow-motion exercise practice, combining meditation with the principles of Truthfulness, Compassion, and Tolerance as a method of cultivation, and that prior to the crackdown, Falun Gong was broadly welcomed throughout mainland China, and that the number of practitioners had exceeded that of the Chinese Communist Party membership—a fact that the authorities in Beijing could not tolerate. The article was also featured in a Toronto Sun column publication.
Recently, international media entities have begun, one after the other, to look into the hidden details surrounding the Gu Kailai case. Earlier, the Epoch Times had reported that Gu Kailai was a central figure in the Bo Xilai/Zhou Yongkang coup circle, a fact which had always been kept under wraps. Her crimes involved directing the removal of organs from living Falun Gong practitioners, engaging in organ sales in Dalian, China, and the illegal sale of corpses together with Bo Xilai.
Huffington Post: Investigations Obtain First Hand Evidence of the CCP’s Organ Harvesting Program
The article reported that the number of executions carried out in China exceeds that of any other nation, and that there are fifty-five criminal offenses for which capital punishment is possible. Some death row inmates in China have their executions delayed until there is a demand for “hearts, lungs, liver, and corneas” and other organs to be transplanted, and only then have their sentences carried out to ensure that the receiver will have a fresh transplant. To the inmates this has to be a horrifying experience.
It also states that currently there are reports that Falun Gong practitioners are held in custody so their body parts and organs can be sold.
Former Canadian Secretary of State (Asia-Pacific) David Kilgour and Winnipeg human rights lawyer David Matas carried out an investigation into whether or not the live transplant of organs (from Falun Gong practitioners) has occurred. Their report came to the following conclusion: “Such transplants have happened in China, and furthermore they continue to be performed on a large scale on Falun Gong practitioners against their will.”
The two investigators obtained first-hand evidence, but the authorities in Beijing deny the allegations.
The Huffington Post is a new, prominent American online newspaper. This paper was created in 2005 and contributes original reporting and news compilation services. It focuses on current domestic and international issues. The Huffington Post has described itself as the “the first interconnected online newspaper,” and its website provides both independent blogs and common media.
The website has, within five short years, set a new record for monthly hits, challenging that of the biggest American publication The New York Times. The number of daily visits has reached 25 million, and is also currently the most influential political blog in the United States.
Report: Fifty-two Kinds of Evidence Prove the Live Transplant of Organs from Falun Gong Practitioners
The distinguished Canadian human rights lawyer David Matas and former Canadian Secretary of State (Asia-Pacific) David Kilgour co-authored an investigational report concerning the live removal of organs from Chinese Falun Gong practitioners.
Their investigation stated that in the six-year period between 2000 and 2005, there took place within Chinese borders 60,000 organ transplant operations; in 41,000 of these cases it was impossible to explain the donor source. The report provides 52 kinds of evidence that the organs of Falun Gong practitioners had been harvested for use as transplants.
Matas said: “The CCP used to use firearms for executions, now they use injections to carry them out. In fact, the purpose of these injections is not to cause death, but to anesthetize the inmate for the organs to be harvested.”
US Political Leaders Publically Denounce Live Organ Harvesting by the CCP
On July 12th of this year, at a public rally in Washington DC opposing the July 20th 1999 crackdown of Falun Gong, many members of the US Congress and NGO leaders publically condemned the CCP’s bloody crime—harvesting of organs from live Falun Gong practitioners. Congress members included Dana Rohrabacher, Chris Smith, Sam Farr, and Congresswoman Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, the Chair of the Congressional Foreign Affairs Committee. From NGOs, there was among others the Chair of the United States Commission on International Religious Freedom (USCIRF) and the Lantos Foundation of Human Rights and Justice, Dr. Katrina Lantos-Swett.
Live Organ Harvesting Makes First Appearance in US Department of State’s Human Rights Report
On May 24th 2012, the US Department of State published its 2011 annual human rights report by nation. For the first time it was mentioned that foreign media and human rights groups were continuing to report on cases of live organ harvesting from Falun Gong practitioners in mainland China. The report also said that local authorities continued to arrest, harass, and imprison Falun Gong practitioners, even holding them in mental institutions to be tortured.
Checks for Participation in Organ Harvesting Added to US Non-Immigration Visa Application
Even earlier, starting in June 2011, the US State Department updated its Non-Immigration Visa Application Form DS-160 with a background check aimed at participation in induced and forced abortion, as well as participation in live organ harvesting. The question goes: “Have you ever been directly involved in the coercive transplantation of human organs or bodily tissue?”
United Nations Committee Against Torture Urges Inquiry into Organ Harvesting of Live Falun Gong Practitioners
On November 21st 2008, the United Nations Committee Against Torture pressed for investigations to be carried out regarding charges of organs being harvested from living Falun Gong practitioners. The UN Committee Against Torture urged China that it “ought to immediately set up or commission an independent investigation to look into the torture of Falun Gong practitioners, as well as the use of them as organ transplant sources...and ensure that those who carry out the abuse (of Falun Gong practitioners) are prosecuted and sentenced.”
Contextual Introduction to Falun Gong
Falun Gong, known also as Falun Dafa, is a cultivation way of the Buddhist tradition. Since May 1992, it was spread on a broad scale throughout mainland China, Taiwan, America, Europe, Australia, and other regions, with about one hundred million people practicing it worldwide.
In July 1999 the CCP began a crackdown on Falun Gong, lasting thirteen years to the present. Many practitioners have suffered brutal persecution at the hands of the authorities. According to incomplete statistics, there have been at least 6,000 illegally sentenced to prison, over 100,000 put through reeducation-through-labor, and 3,574 confirmed cases of death. Thousands of people have been forcibly interned in psychiatric hospitals and subjected to ruin by drugs affecting the central nervous system. In 2010 the UN Human Rights Committee reported sixteen cases of Falun Gong practitioners being persecuted to death.
