Thoughts of Mine: Be Persistent

[PureInsight.org] When I was in high school, one day my teacher assigned us to write an essay based on a picture. The picture, which many people my age from China will find familiar, told a story. A man was trying to dig a well. He dug a hole but then gave up, not knowing there was water below and that he just needed to dig deep enough to reach it. He kept changing locations to dig new wells and all ended up in the same situation.

I came across this picture again recently and was quite moved because I realized this is the mistake I often make too, due to my lack of persistence!

Now I tell myself when I do something, as long as my starting point is righteous and my goal is clear, I will persist!

In my understanding, in the human world, everything is restrained by the principle of mutual-generation and mutual-inhibition, and thus, difficulty is bound to lie in everything we do. Only when we have put in arduous efforts and undergone failure and pain before reaching our goal will we cherish what we have obtained. This requires great persistence and spirit of perseverance. We often hear people say, “Faith will move mountains.” Regardless of how enormous the difficulty is, as long as we persevere, even the heavens will be moved and help us, and we will surely succeed!
