[PureInsight.org] According to an Epoch Times
report on April 30, Isabelle Kitze, a 12 year old student from
California, won first prize for her documentary film, "The Persecution
of Falun Gong," at the Third Youth Film Festival for the age group of
10-13. The awards ceremony was held in the Larkspur Theater on April
27.
There were 20 films participating in the festival. All films were
limited to 15 minutes in length and made by young people aged between
10 and 18. The categories included music, documentary film, narration,
and environmental protection. There were two age groups: 10-13 and 14 -
18. The criteria for the judging of the films was based on the
technique and subject of the films, as well as whether the films were
interesting.
The judges for this year included Daniel Handler, a renowned
playwright, Samantha Creath, a film critic, James Hirsch, a movie
producer and playwright, and Jordan Livingston and Alexandra Pelosi,
movie producers.
Isabelle Kitze had won the first prize two years ago with her "Over
Easy," a humorous documentary film. When she found out that people were
being arrested and tortured, even persecuted to death, because of their
beliefs, she thus wanted to know more about that fact
.
Isabelle said that she wanted to help audiences to understand what
Falun Gong is and why and how Falun Gong practitioners are able to
endure the persecution.
In order to make this film, Isabelle went to the San Francisco
Chinatown area to interview Falun Gong practitioners who had suffered
persecution by the Chinese Communist Party. During the show being
played on Sunday, the audiences were shocked to find out that the
persecution is still being carried out in China.
This film will also be entered in the US Film Festival.
