[PureInsight.org] Snow fell
during the night. Ice and snow had accumulated on the windshield. After
I cleared it, there was still some left on the edge of the windshield
and they affected my view slightly. When I drove eastbound, sunlight
shone directly on the ice and snow. Gradually, the ice and snow changed
into flakes of crystals and then became water droplets. They flew down
and the windshield became clear and bright.
The bright sunlight followed me. It was warm, soft, and genial. Meanwhile, I thought about benevolence.
Benevolence is energy. It is warm, soft, cordial, and bright. It can
dissolve the ice and snow in people's minds. It can drive away the cold
and detached mindset and illuminate the dark clouds hanging heavily
over one's mind.
People have many means to resolve the conflicts among them, just like
people have many ways to clear ice and snow. But it does not matter how
hard we try, conflicts cannot always be solved thoroughly, just like
the remnant traces of ice left behind. It is because humans have
limited ability and lack energy. Whenever benevolence appears, it will
dissolve all the ice and frost in the mind.
If you ask me what benevolence is, I would say that, based on my level of understanding, my answer is like this:
Benevolence is the realm of putting aside one's ego and having
consideration for others. Benevolence is having infinite compassion for
life. Benevolence is having tolerance for others' mistakes. Benevolence
is to wish more beings have happiness. Benevolence is to sow seeds of
goodness. Benevolence is to endure pain. Benevolence is a deep love of
enlightened beings. Benevolence is the compassionate thoughts of a
cultivator who has let go of human notions.
Benevolence is like sunshine in winter, warm and serene.
