A Ten-Year-Old Boy
One day a 10-year-old boy stopped to read the posters at our torture exhibit. A Falun Gong practitioner went up to him and asked him, "Do you understand what it says on the posters?" The little boy said that he did. The practitioner smiled and asked him, "Then tell me what it says." The little boy said, "In a few places in China, good people are being persecuted." The practitioners replied, "Actually, the persecution is happening all over China, not just in a few areas. Jiang Zemin is a dictator in China. Because he is jealous of Falun Gong's popularity, he has persecuted people who practice Falun Gong." The little boy asked, "Why don't they just stop practicing Falun Gong to avoid the persecution? The practitioner replied, "Do you have any hobby?" The little boy said, "I like taking care of small animals." The practitioner said, "Let's pretend that you were in China and many people in China shared the same interest in taking care of small animals as you do. If the Chinese dictator forbids you from taking care of small animals, what would you do?" The boy thought about it for a moment and then replied firmly, "I think it's wrong to persecute people."
The practitioner proceeded to give the little boy a personal "guided tour" of the posters and shared with him stories of Falun Gong practitioners which photographs appeared on the posters. The boy kept nodding his head and said, "It is horrible. It is too horrible." At the end of the tour, he signed the petition that calls for the U.S. State Department's help to end the persecution.
The Righteous Thought of a High-School Student
A high school student noticed that we have been doing the torture exhibit to share with people the truth about the persecution for several months, rain or shine. She decided to do some research on Falun Gong over the Internet. She found and downloaded a lot of photographs of tortured Falun Gong practitioners in China. She told us that she had given a report on the Chinese Communist government's persecution against Falun Gong practitioners during her high school government class. One of her classmates challenged her, "The media doesn't have any coverage on the persecution. How do you know that the persecution really exists?" She replied, "The media does not cover the issue, but you may go to the Internet to find out many real-life examples confirming the existence of the persecution."
She told us excitedly, "I want to practice Falun Gong, and I will ask my mother to practice Falun Gong with me." We encouraged her, "You have done a very noble deed. It may look like an ordinary action and does not give you any direct benefit, but it is really extraordinary." She added, "I have already found a volunteer practice site near my home, and it's right across the street from my home." During the conversation, we asked her, "Do you believe in karma?" She said yes. Then we told her stories about of Edgar Cayce, a famous American psychic, who could read people's previous lives: "One of them was a 45-year-old woman. She was paralyzed by polio at the age of 36 and had to rely on a wheelchair to get around. After many rounds of unsuccessful treatments, she found Cayce and asked him to give her a reading of her previous lives. She learned that the reason for her paralysis in this life was what she had done in ancient Rome. Between 37-68 AD, she was a member of the royal court when Emperor Nero persecuted Christians. She not only had no sympathy for the Christians who were mutilated in the coliseum, but she also sneered at them. The price for her cold sneers was to be paralyzed in this life." "Another patient was a girl. She was an aristocrat in her previous life during Nero's rule, and she enjoyed watching Christians being tortured in the coliseum. She even laughed loudly when she saw a young girl's body torn apart by a lion. This aristocrat who took pleasure in martyrs' sufferings was paying back her sins with tuberculosis." [1] She said approvingly, "It is very important for people to have a right attitude when it comes to important issues."
A Kindhearted Caucasian Gentleman
A white gentleman stops by our torture exhibit every day. He talks to Falun Gong practitioners every day and asks for the latest truth-clarification material. He said, "It is my job to provide investment news to the investors. Since I learned the Chinese Communist government's persecution against Falun Gong practitioners in China, we have become increasingly cautious about providing investment news to people who want to invest in China."
It was unusually cold yesterday. He was worried about our health, and suggested that we go inside the buildings where there's heat. We replied, "We must do what we should do." After hearing our reply, he said to himself, "I must do something [to help.]" We bid him farewell and asked him to keep warm. He started to tear up. He wanted to say something, but he could not say anything because he was choked with emotions. Then he turned his head away to hide the tears flowing down his face.
Although the weather for the past few days were unusually cold, people were as receptive to our offer of truth-clarification materials as usual. In fact, there seems to be an increase in the number of people who accepted our flyers. Many young people signed the petition calling for the U.S. government's intervention to end the persecution. Many gave us a friendly smile when we tried to hand them flyers and said, "I've already got one." Some nodded at us, giving us their approval and encouragement. Perhaps our spirit of braving against the cold weather to continue our efforts has touched people in Manhattan.
