7. A Jewish person with an (awful) attitude.
One day, I met a Jewish person who was very rude. He said, "I know that you are being persecuted. Persecution is not right. However, since the Chinese government doesn't allow you to do it, you should just stay home. Why go through all the trouble? In America, for example, if a rule doesn't allow you to do something, you just don't do it. Why go against it?"
I told him, "The persecution of Falun Gong wasn't decided by the government, it was Jiang's personal vendetta. When Falun Gong was introduced in China in 1992, the government was very supportive and actually presented many awards to Falun Gong. In 1998, a survey estimated that there were 70 million people practicing Falun Gong, including 30 million who were members of the Communist party and high-level officials. However, under China's dictatorship rule, everything is carried out according to the wishes of the dictator, which includes controlling the country's entire governing apparatus and media. The regime also tries to control everyone's minds. When the dictator learned about the overwhelming number of people practicing Falun Gong, he became frightened. He felt his dictatorship was threatened, and at the same time he was jealous, so he launched the persecution. In China, there is not one law that states Falun Gong is illegal. The persecution was entirely caused by a dictator's jealousy."
He continued to ask, "Aren't what you guys doing useless? The persecution is still going on."
I said, "Not exactly, the fact is that many changes have taken place. In the beginning, Jiang used the country's media to spread lies around the world, so many people were blinded and didn't know the truth about Falun Gong. Overseas media rarely reports on Falun Gong, and a few would actually relay the propaganda spread by China's media. The persecution going today is already very different from when it first started. At the beginning, China's media spread propaganda against Falun Gong to all corners of the world. Nowadays, China's media rarely reports on Falun Gong and the [perpetrators] no longer dare to persecute Falun Gong practitioners in public. Much of the persecution has gone underground. Haven't big changes already taken place? Many overseas governments have rescued several Falun Gong practitioners. If more and more people know the truth and more governments step forward to support, then this persecution will stop."
I continued to tell him the greatness of Dafa and he became happy. At the end, he gave me his business card so we could stay in touch and even apologized for his bad attitude in the beginning.
8. Is your clarifying the truth effective?
While on the subway, the two of us practitioners met a Chinese person. He told us that he was once involved in Chinese politics. He said, "What use is there after spending so much time clarifying the truth, and what use is there by talking about "Truthfulness, Compassion, Tolerance?" You should ask the Chinese government for a reform. Jiang has now stepped down and you keep mentioning his name, he is unable to do anything. You should talk to Hu Jintao. You should know that any time a reform takes place, a political reform is required. Otherwise, it will fail."
I asked him, "Do you believe in Buddhas, Daos, and Gods?"
He said, "I don't believe in them."
I said, "But you do believe that all motion of matter has patterns."
He said, "That's right."
I continued to say, "Then bigger material objects, such as the earth, the solar system, and the motions in the universe also have patterns. Then what patterns do they follow? It follows the pattern of 'good is rewarded with good, and evil is met with evil.' Only the good will remain and the bad will be destroyed. That is the pattern of the universe."
He said, "It makes sense. Then are you all clarifying the truth for yourselves?"
"We are not doing it for ourselves. You said that in China, so many Falun Gong practitioners risk their lives to distribute flyers and to save people. Over a thousand Falun Gong practitioners have been persecuted to death because of clarifying the truth. They know about the dangers but insisted on clarifying the truth. Can you say that they were doing it for themselves?"
We spoke with him for almost an hour. In the end he said, "What you've all said is very great. It's courageous people like you that China lacks. I respect your spirit and courage. It looks like clarifying the truth is effective."
I said, "Then help us clarify the truth, tell your family and friends what we just told you."
He said, "I will, I will tell it to everyone that I meet. If you have any trouble, you can contact me." He gave me his business card.
Broadly speaking, clarifying the truth to Americans is easier than to the Chinese. When you clarify the truth to Chinese people, you have to be calm. No matter what situation you run into, speaking peacefully while sending forth righteous thoughts will enable you to speak clearly and logically.
