Attachments Come out When You Step Back

[PureInsight.org] In cultivation, the hardest thing to do is finding our attachments. Frequently it isn’t that one doesn’t want to let go of the attachments - rather it’s that one can’t find them. In suffering and tribulation, one relies on enduring hardship to proceed forward. However, the problems only worsen and become harder to resolve. “If you can take a step back you’ll see things in a whole new light.” This isn’t just a saying. It is a Fa jewel for solving problems.

In Journey to the West, the second episode is “Master and Disciples Have Second Thoughts”. It incorporates the mindset of stepping back. Tang Ceng thinks he is all smart and drives Monkey King away. When he runs into danger and has no one to save him, he thinks of Monkey King and realizes his arrogance. When Tang Ceng finds his attachment – arrogance – the tribulation is overcome. We can all understand this story. However, when we run into the situation ourselves, we can’t think of it.

When faced with a conflict, stepping back to before the conflict arose and reflecting on our mindset and attitude at that time will allow us to find the attachment quickly because that is the old forces’ excuse for persecuting us and where we have loopholes. Pressing forward will definitely not help us find the attachment.

For example when something goes wrong with our body, when aging or sickness manifests, don’t think about how to solve the problem; if the problem is immediately solved, other problems will arise. Instead step back to before anything happened to your body and think about what happened. Did you become too relaxed, do the exercises less or neglect doing the three things because you wanted to live an ordinary lifestyle? Perhaps the true reason can be found quickly.

When something goes wrong financially, step back and think about if you thought about money too seriously or other reasons. You will be sure to find the fundamental problem.

Cultivators have something ordinary people don’t have: stepping back. Ordinary people say, “You can’t buy regret medicine anywhere” because ordinary people don’t have Master’s care. Dafa disciples are different in this regard. As long as you step back and find the attachment, things will change and problems will be resolved.

When faced with tribulations, if you can take a step back you’ll see things in a whole new light. It is the truth.
