Not Casually Buying Books for Children

[PureInsight.org] One relative of mine bought several books for my child, thinking that it would improve his education. My son likes them very much and could not stop reading them. I took a look at a book cover and found it not good. When discussing with my son not to read them further, however, he strongly disagreed with me. I had no choice but to let it go.

Since then, my son often screamed during sleep at night. I was surprised but did not connect that with the books. One day, I took him to group Fa-study. Seeing my son feeling uncomfortable, a fellow practitioner suggested sending forth righteous thoughts. We did that and helped clean my son’s dimension. After returning home, I saw those books and picked up one to take a look. Immediately, I knew those books were bad. All of them had the same author who, according to my son, is a famous contemporary writer. However, between the lines I saw low-level spirits and ghosts. In addition, the books promote Van Gogh who is someone that damaged human culture by deforming art. I immediately understood why my son screamed at night. So I told him about this and pointed out that the books were very bad. He looked scared and suggested selling them as used books. I did not want those books to stay around any longer, so I trashed them. Because of reading one of the books, I was also interfered with. I thus sent forth righteous thoughts and it took several days for me to recover. Then I told my husband and my son again that we would not buy such books any more.

I seldom took my son to bookstores. There are many books out there, but it is very difficult to find good books. Other than books on traditional culture or those that promote moral values, we have to think twice before giving books—especially the so-called popular ones—to children to read. Many of the books have degenerated thoughts in them and some authors may even have low-level spirits connected with them. As one reads such books, these bad things will be able to enter through the eyes. Cases of spirit possession are even more serious and it will enter as soon as someone likes the book or accepts its ideas. The books without spirit possession are not good, either. This is because many of the books promote fame and money. Such opinions in these books will not have positive influences on the readers.

Therefore, I am against casually buying books for our children. On the one hand, doing so is actually bringing low-level spirits home. On the other hand, the degenerated values in these books will lead the children astray. The society nowadays is a mess. Many of the books, even though claiming to promote knowledge or science, are actually polluting readers’ minds and distorting their moral standard. Pornographic books and magazines were looked down upon in the past, but they are now popular and almost seen everywhere. This has a negative influence on the children since they are too young to tell right from wrong. Plus, many books have contents that are contaminated by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) culture. These books promote dishonesty, viciousness, and violence, thus easily leading the children to rebellion. When casually picking up books in the bookstore, I found very few of them are non-poisonous. It is already difficult for a practitioner to cultivate even without reading everyday books. With those chaotic books, it would make cultivation even more challenging.

As we know, the best books are readily available to us. We can never be tired of reading Dafa books. The more we read them, the wiser and healthier we will become. Therefore, instead of letting our children spend time on those degenerated books, we should ask them to spend more time on Dafa books. This is the best thing we can do for our children.

I remember reading one practitioner’s sharing in Zhengjian Weekly. That practitioner said, “Actually I am not a very diligent practitioner. But one thing I am strict with myself is that, I do not read books other than Dafa books, and I do not read articles from Web sites other than Minghui or Zhengjian. Therefore, Master has been helping with my cultivation all the time.”

In Essentials for Further Advancement, “Melt Into the Fa,” Master said, “A person is like a container, and he is whatever he contains. All of what a person sees with the eyes and hears with the ears are: violence, lust, power struggles in literary works, struggles for profit in the practical world, money worship, other manifestations of demon-nature, and so on. With his head filled with these, this kind of person is truly a bad person, no matter what he appears to be. A person’s behavior is dictated by his thoughts. With a mind full of such things, what’s a person able to do?” “On the other hand, if a person accepts the kind, traditional thoughts of mankind that have prevailed for thousands of years, believes in proper human behavior and standards, and is filled with all good things, what will this person’s conduct be like? Whether or not this person shows it, he is genuinely a good person.” “As a student, if his mind is filled with nothing but Dafa, this person is definitely a genuine cultivator.”

The above are my personal understandings. Please point out anything inappropriate.
