[PureInsight.org] I have a patient who is a famous painter. She told me about two of her experiences. Once, she was riding a bike. When she was passing by an ancient building, she felt that there was a person beside her who pushed her down rapidly and forcefully. She fell down on the ground and yelled loudly because of the pain. When she raised her head to look at that person, she could not see anyone, not even a shadow. The surroundings were deserted. She thought that she might have been pushed by an innocent ghost. She was suddenly sweating all over her body due to her fear. Since then, she has often had headaches. Another time, her friend told her about a folk prescription for curing headaches because she had had headaches for many years and it always interfered with her painting. She was told to buy a hundred year-old turtle and kill it to drink its blood in order to treat her headache. She asked a friend to buy her a many decades old turtle and she drank its blood. After that, her headaches were not cured. In fact, they became worse. The pain was more severe than before. She was very regretful. There is not a good treatment for headaches like hers. I heard this story of hers and guessed that some diseases might be caused by one’s previous actions.
After I practiced Falun Gong, there was a period of time when I often had pain in my right eye. In addition, a pain on the right side of my head often followed. Once, I had pain in both my right eye and the right side of my head. It was so painful that it made me vomit. I could not sit or stand still. So I went outside for a walk. It was a frigid winter day. As I walked in the freezing cold north wind, I recited the poem “Causality” from Hong Yin:
“It is not that it’s painful on the path of cultivation,
Karma of lifetimes and lifetimes impedes;
Steeling the heart, eliminating karma, cultivating xinxing,
Forever possessing a human form is a Buddha.”
While I was memorizing this poem, I suddenly understood the cause of the pain in my eye and head. I recalled that I had shot birds with a shotgun in the past. I felt very sad when I remembered this. All the suffering that I have to endure is caused by me myself. Because I now practice Falun Gong, I have an opportunity to pay back my debts or karma from my previous lifetimes. I am lucky that I truly understand the principle of karmic retribution (an outcome—good or bad—that is well deserved) because I cultivate Falun Dafa.
