We Must Actively (Rather Than Passively) Remove Our Attachments

By a Dafa practitioner

[PureInsight.org] I was
impressed by a "Cultivation Diary" article that was a cultivation
sharing by a practitioner at the 2008 Washington DC Fa Conference. The
practitioner wrote the following in their article: "I suddenly realized
that there were two fatal issues in my cultivation. One issue was that
I removed my attachments in a passive manner, rather than of my own
initiative. I was forced to encounter my attachments when conflicts
flared up. Another issue was that when conflicts arose, I always
attempted to change other people rather myself. For example, I tried to
change my mother's mind to compromise with mine when there was a
conflict between us. In the meantime, I tried to cover up my
attachments instead of looking inside myself."

The above reflects my own situation. I used to believe that I was so
highly enlightened that I was able to understand what Master was
revealing every time contradictions came up. I felt really good about
myself. Now I have realized that my enlightenment was not as high as I
thought. I asked myself why I encountered those contradictions. They
arose because I had too many serious attachments. Master had to arrange
those contradictions and conflicts to let me see my attachments. I've
come to understand that I must remove every tiny thought or idea that
may lead to attachments before the attachments result in conflicts and
contradictions. This is what I should do from now on. I should prevent
any of my attachments from creating conflicts.

Through recent intensive Fa study, I've realized that I must raise my cultivation of mind and body (xinxing)
to a higher level. I must be alert about the motivation behind any of
my thoughts at any time. I should actively get rid of the thoughts and
attachments before they become acute and result in ordinary people's
contradictions. I would like to share my understanding as follows: An
idea may come from a motivation of pursuit while any thought may result
from an attachment. Let's look into the depths of ourselves and
cultivate our mind and body by studying the Fa a lot.
