A Story about Plants

"In addition to human beings and animals, plants are also lives. Any matter's life can manifest in other dimensions. When your Celestial Eye reaches the level of Fa Eyesight, you will find that rocks, walls, or anything can talk to you and greet you."(Zhuan Falun)

I am growing some plants on the balcony. Some of them I can identify, some I cannot. They have not bloomed for a long time. One day as I was watering them I said: " Why did you stop blooming? How nice it would be if you would bloom." A few days later, a bud grew on a jasmine plant, and then a white flower blossomed. Immediately the whole balcony filled with a refreshing fragrance. When a breeze came, the fragrance wafted into my room. This single, small jasmine flower smelled so sweet. It seemed as if it summoned up all its energy to express its gratitude for my watering it. I smiled at the jasmine and said, " Thank you."

That night in my dream I saw a plant on my balcony talking to me. I did not hear clearly, so I went close to it. I found that on its vines hung bunches of things that looked like pearls. I said, " Who are you? You wanted to tell me something in my dream?" When I woke up next morning, I could still remember what happened in the dream. Therefore I went to the balcony to check. Suddenly I found that next to the jasmine, on the vines of a miniature potted plant, had grown bunches of small green balls, over one hundred of them. They looked very similar to what I saw in the dream. I couldn't help laughing, "Oh, it is you! How come a potted landscape grew fruits? I cannot recognize you. What do you mean to tell me with these small balls?"

A few days later, those green balls burst. Form every ball came out six small, purple flowers. Every flower had five petals. The golden pistil was ring-shaped and shone under the sun. Every day, over one hundred flowers bloomed from dozens of buds. These buds bloomed for over a month. They made the whole balcony look beautiful and cheerful.

It came to me afterwards that this potted landscape might have felt ashamed after I had praised the jasmine in front of it.

The other day when I was plucking dead leaves, I accidentally broke a plant in half. I felt upset and put the broken half into a glass of water and said to it: " I did not break you on purpose. I hope you can grow well here. I will bring you a neighbor, so you will not feel lonely." From a plant that was next to the broken plant, I cut down two leaves and put them into the glass. I said to them: "You two were neighbors before. Now I hope you can still be good neighbors!" At this moment, on the floor I saw a small section of a cactus, which was still alive, so I put it into the glass as well. I said: " Cactus, you have thorns all over. If you dare make trouble and disturb others, I will throw you out."

These three plants are all supposed to be grown in soil, and all of them have some parts missing. But they have all survived in a glass of water. They have been growing well for a couple of months now. The two single leaves are very green, but no roots have grown yet. I wonder - how do the leaves mange to absorb moisture?
