Clarify the Truth without Fear and with Compassion

A Falun Gong Practitioner in C

PureInsight | July 11, 2005

[PureInsight.org] I am a Falun Gong practitioner from Changhua, Taiwan. I would like to share with everyone my experiences of clarifying the facts about Falun Gong and China's persecution of Falun Gong to people in China.

At first I made phone calls with an attachment to fear. After dialing a few dozen numbers, I lost confidence in myself and gave up. Then I started to use all kinds of excuses not to make calls to China. I stopped calling China for six months because I was overcome with fear.

Teacher said, "All of you are already aware of the principle of mutual-generation and mutual-inhibition. If you are not afraid, the factor that would make you afraid will cease to exist. […] Everything that the evil has done has actually targeted the attachments and fears that you have not let go of. […] by having your heart unaffected you will be able to handle all situations." (From "Eliminate Your Last Attachment(s)" in Essentials for Further Advancement II.)

Teacher said, "It is the evil that is afraid of people knowing the truth of the situation, not Dafa disciples." (From "A Suggestion" in Essentials for Further Advancement II. )

It was as if Teacher said these words directly to me because Teacher pinpointed my attachment. I gradually realized that I couldn't call myself a Falun Gong practitioner if I didn't eliminate my fear. Fellow Falun Gong practitioners in China are directly suffering from the persecution, but they are still courageously clarifying the truth about Falun Gong and validating the Fa. How could I possibly enter a heavenly paradise without removing my attachment to fear first? After a long period of thinking, I finally picked up the phone and started calling China again.

I remember I once called a telephone number in Beijing. A girl answered the phone, but she hung up soon after I tried to clarify the truth to her. When I called the same number again, a man answered the phone. He laughed and hung up shortly as well. It did not bother me. I made a note next to the phone number to remind myself to try later. I have formed a habit of marking the telephone numbers of those who were not very receptive to the truth about Falun Gong when I called them initially so that I can remember to call them at a later time. There is always a chance that they will accept the truth next time. On the following day, I called the same telephone number in Beijing. This time the phone call became a crowd scene. I talked to a dozen college students. At first the same girl answered the phone. I recognized her voice and told her immediately that we had talked briefly yesterday. She immediately passed the phone to another person. After I finished talking with that person, he passed it to the next. A dozen college students took turns bombarding me. Some cursed me; some were curious about what I had to say; some laughed at me and called me a fool; some asked me questions; some quietly listened; and some thanked me for sharing the information with them. Despite their attitudes, I did not lose my temper. As long as they did not hang up the phone, they had an opportunity to learn the truth. I spent over an hour talking to them on the phone, but I thought it was still worthwhile. They may not be highly moral people, but as long as they accept the truth about Falun Gong, they will have better futures.

Another time, I tried to send a fax to China, but someone answered the phone. He asked me what I was trying to send, I answered, "The important facts about Falun Gong." He said, "It is against the law." Then I started telling him the truth about Falun Gong. I introduced Falun Gong to him and told him the facts of China's persecution of Falun Gong. He kept saying "Oh." After I finished, he said, "I have never heard such things. Why don't you fax the information over? I will have a good look at it." I immediately faxed him four pages of facts about Falun Gong. Afterwards I called him again. He told me that he believed some of the facts. I told him facts about the Chinese Communist Party and its persecution against Falun Gong practitioners. He repeatedly said, "You are right! You are right!" Finally he said "thank you."

I once called a Chinese police station and clarified the truth to the man who answered the phone. It turned out the man was incredibly kindhearted. I went on telling him to be kind to Falun Gong practitioners and give them necessary help to avoid the persecution. When the man was convinced that I truly am a Falun Gong practitioner, he confessed that he is also a Falun Gong practitioner. He had just been released from prison. His entire family practices Falun Gong and his family is still incarcerated in prison. He is now working part-time for this police station to make ends meet because he had been fired from his previous work for refusing to renounce Falun Gong. He told me that the Chinese Communist Party continues to persecute Falun Gong practitioners and the environment is very hostile and dangerous to Falun Gong practitioners. Nevertheless, they continue to validate the Fa and clarify the truth secretly. I was deeply moved by his determination and perseverance. How could I be afraid of making phone calls from the safe and peaceful land of Taiwan? However, out of the concern for his safety, I tried not to say too much.

As long as we clarify the truth to the Chinese people with kindness and compassion, they will be receptive to the truth. We must be polite and sincere at all times and we must not become excited or vexed. I have made friends with many of the people I called in Mainland China. On the other hand, I also have failed to help many Chinese people understand and accept the truth about Falun Gong. I think it must be my attachments that caused them to reject the truth. I must study the Fa more and be more diligent in my cultivation practice in order to save more people.

A fellow practitioner once said, "Clarifying the truth to the Chinese people over the phone is not a painful chore. I feel very fortunate to be able to do it. It is a very pleasant mission to me." That is exactly how I feel too.
