R: NJ Dafa practitioner, Ruy Bucanera
Reporter: You're displaying paintings of tortures here. What kind of reactions have you gotten from the people passing by?
R: Some people are amazed by the paintings, and some people just looked at the statue, the golden statue right behind me. Some other people, like the boy that you saw just now, he came to ask me what was this going on here. Some people are very shocked to see this. More and more people are beginning to know about Dafa. Some have already heard about Dafa. Some had already gotten the flyers, but they don't know much yet. They have just started to learn what Dafa is all about. I try to explain to them what Dafa is first, then tell them about the persecution that's going on. Why we are doing the exhibition here. They say this is very shocking for kids. I tell them, "What about what your kids are watching on TV, the video games your kids are playing, and the movies that they are watching about crime, killings, and all that stuff? These are atrocities that have been going on for five years. It is real and happening right now as we speak. We have to tell the world about this, to stop this persecution.
Reporter: How long have you been doing this torture exhibition?
R: We started about 2-3 months ago.
Reporter: Have you been here every week?
R: Yes, every week. I come every weekend because of my work.
Reporter: What are the most popular questions from people?
R: Usually the questions are: "Why? Why they are doing this? Are you a sect? Do you have any connection with religion?" There was one Jewish person who said, "Why should I sympathize with you and support you?" I said, "What do you believe?" He said, "Well, I am Jewish." I said, "My wife is Jewish, too. I respect your belief. As a human being you should respect mine, and see what is happening to human beings. I am not talking about your belief, or my belief. We should respect everyone's belief. But these are atrocities that are going on right now. As a Jewish person you should know better than most what these people are going through. We are talking about the genocide of 100 million people, maybe more because of their families. In my mind, I would think I was one of the people who have committed this crime because I did not do anything about trying to stop it. As a human being, it is a right thing to do. But I will leave it to your conscience."
Reporter: May I ask how long you have practiced Falun Gong?
R: I have practiced for two years.
Reporter: How did you get into it?
R: Once when I was going home, close to the ferry, somebody was clarifying the truth. I got a flyer, but it was a piece of paper talking about a person being tortured in China. They were distributing these papers asking people to help. At that time, it did not have the website on it. So I did not know how to get into contact. I just know the name Falun Gong. I read it. Something was there that caught my attention right away. I wanted to find out more about these people. I brought the paper back home. I always looked for them because I remembered the yellow shirts. One day I was driving with my son, going to a friend's house, when I passed the consulate and saw them practicing over there. I told my wife and son, "There they are! The yellow shirts! I have got to talk to them." But I could not stop the car, and kept going. Two years went by. One day I was sitting at home, and my wife came home. They gave her a reader, a flyer and a CD. When I saw those, I said to my wife, "Falun Gong! Thank you so much for these. You don't know how long I have been looking for these." That night I put the CD in the computer and for the first time I saw the real story about Falun Dafa, which touched me right away. I knew Dafa was for me. I knew I had been looking for it all my life. I said, "I have found it!" Not knowing that I did not find anything, Dafa found me. When I watched the video, tears rolling down my face, I could not stop myself. I was suffering from the persecution in front of the computer. I could see right away I had to do something. Next day, I called right away, found the practice site, and....here I am.
Reporter: Has anything changed in you after two year's practice?
R: Yes, a lot of things have changed. I had a problem with drugs. For 30 some years I used to use a substance and could never stop. I tried so many times but could not stop. The second month after I started practice, I went to a conference and saw Master. After that conference, I felt that something had changed, but I did not know how to explain what it was. I went home and tried to use the drug, and that drug was completely different. It was not the same. Something weird happened. I tried to use it again, same thing happened again. I told my wife, Something is going on here, because this drug is not the same. I feel nothing is happening. Something is happening here that I cannot understand what is going on." My wife had started to practice too. She used to smoke cigarettes like crazy. She said, "I understand what you are saying because the same thing is happening to me with the cigarettes." At the same time, it was happening to both of us. We both came from the conference. From that point on, I started to read the book very fast, and then understood what was happening. Some other physical problem I had also disappeared. It was the feeling inside that Dafa was what I had been looking for all my life.
