(From "Melt Into the Fa" in Essentials for Further Advancement)
As Falun Gong practitioners and teachers at Minghui Dou Dou Kindergarten, we understand there are profound implications behind Teacher's words. We also feel we have an important responsibility to select the best teaching materials besides Falun Dafa books for the students at Minghui Dou Dou Kindergarten. Studying the Fa helped us make our selection. Besides Falun Dafa books, we have added Chinese traditional culture to our curriculum.
We gave the children a different kind of art class, where we taught them how to appreciate traditional Chinese artwork. We showed them a replica of the famous "Along the River During the Ch'ing-ming Festival" (1644 – 1911, hand scroll, ink and colors on silk, 35.6 x 1152.8 cm, National Palace Museum, Taipei, Taiwan.) [Ch'ing Ming Festival is also known as Tomb Sweeping Day where people go to the cemetery and pay respect to their ancestors.] Smaller children have fewer notions. Before we decided to teach them to appreciate "Along the River During the Ch'ing-ming Festival," we had to eliminate our notion: "children wouldn't be attracted to traditional Chinese brush painting."
It turned out that they really didn't have the notion. When they saw such a grand and magnificent traditional Chinese brush painting, their eyes widened with admiration. Because the art teacher had explained this painting in the previous art class, the children were very excited to see the replica of the actual painting. All of them leaned forward, looking at the painting with rapt attention. They looked for interesting characters in the painting. They also looked for clues in the painting to figure out or imagine the customs of the Ch'ing Ming Festival during the Qing Dynasty. The art teacher also explained the different customs of ancient and modern Chinese people. Many of them kept saying, "It's really fascinating! I will go to the National Palace Museum on our next holiday!"
