[PureInsight.org]The highly respected Bodhisattva Avalokitesvara, also known as "Goddess of Mercy" or "Guan Yin" in Chinese, is dressed in white and holding a bottle with a willow twig. The Artist has exaggerated the proportion between Guan Yin and the child to emphasis the greatness and benevolence of Guan Yin. Bodhisattva Avalokitesvarais known for her compassion, she is one of the two senior Bodhisattvas in the Paradise of Ultimate Bliss. The Chinese people sometimes refer to Bodhisattva Avalokitesvara as "the Great Being in White."
