Laying Down One';s Life for a Just Cause

A Dafa Disciple

PureInsight | January 28, 2002

The ancient saying “laying down one’s life for a just cause” has profound meanings. However, people today, deeply influenced by the moral decay and degenerate thinking of modern society, can no longer fathom these meanings. They have even brought into being the concept of “bad living is better than good dying.”

Presently, some people’s reactions toward the persecution of Dafa practitioners reflect the influence of such a debased concept. Immersed in such notions, selfishness has become the driving force of many people’s lives. These people have turned their backs on the norms set forth for humans by divine beings.

The real purpose and meaning of life is not to live comfortably in the society of ordinary people. “One should return to one’s original, true self; this is the real purpose of being human.”(From Lecture One of Zhuan Falun) In fact, returning to one’s original, kind nature is to be embraced by the gods.

Some people place their own lives and self-interest as the top priority, while morality and justice are seen as secondary. They ignore morality and justice when their lives are threatened. In reality, this is a most near-sighted reaction. Death is not the most frightening prospect; instead, performing evil deeds is truly worthy of fear. If one cannot refrain from continually committing and accumulating wicked deeds, what awaits him is torment in hell. If he continues to become more wicked, then his fate is to be completely eliminated. Reincarnation is a reality for human beings, and death is merely changing to another dimension. Life does not truly vanish, and a person’s deeds, both good and bad, remain with him forever. To give up morality for the sake of preserving ones life is equivalent to selling out one’s soul. It is giving oneself to demons and truly harming one’s own life.
