In order to study the Fa well, we should first have the correct attitude and the correct state of mind. We should bear a respectful heart towards Master and the Fa. This is called, “before cultivating your heart, you should be sincere first.” Some cultivators in the ancient times would take a bath and change their clothes before reading scripture or meditation. They were very pious. Yet, they could not obtain the true Fa . Today, Master has offered the fundamental great Fa of the cosmos right in front of us. How lucky we are! We should “not lose it easily just because you have obtained it easily.”(Lecture Six of Zhuan Falun)
We also have to calm our hearts. Before studying the Fa, just as we do before sending forth righteous thoughts, we may “think about eliminating the bad thoughts in their minds, karma, and bad notions or external interference.”(“Teaching the Fa at the 2001 Canada Falun Dafa Cultivation Experience Sharing Conference”). Only by calming our minds can we be dissolved into the Fa and achieve the most ideal results from studying. Otherwise, studying with a mind full of thoughts from our human side means we are using a human heart and logic. This obstructs us from genuinely understanding the Fa.
We need to purify our hearts as well. If we study the Fa with many human selfish and distracting thoughts, with a mind wandering off all over the place, then the sacredness and holiness of the Fa will not be revealed, and hence we cannot attain the Fa.
