Before I started my cultivation I always had deep respect for monks who left their homes and wandered around for cultivation, but I could not understand why I had such feelings. I also knew that to give alms to a monk is to bear out a great benevolent yuan (predestined relationship). But I did not seriously pursue what the deeper meaning behind this might be.
Recently when I’ve discussed the matter of “begging” with other practitioners, I had a sudden fresh understanding of this issue. Actually there is a very beautiful name “Huayuan” (Establish Yuan) given for a monk’s act of begging for food. On the surface a monk is begging for a mouthful of rice, when actually he willingly wanders around everywhere and endures suffering to create opportunities for sentient beings to confirm their benevolent yuan with Buddha. In the meantime he steels his xinxing, eliminates karma and consummates himself. This is the benevolent compassion of the Buddha school.
During the Fa-rectification period, our way of cultivation is different from before. In the process of clarifying the truth, we call on people in the world to understand Dafa and support “Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance”. We save sentient beings and lay the foundation for them to bring to fruition their yuan with Dafa. In the mean time we continuously remove fundamental attachments and cultivate to reach consummation as Fa-rectification disciples.
Master said in Speech by Master Li Hongzhi at the Western US Cultivation Experience Sharing Conference of Falun Dafa, “On the surface, we're seeking public support for Dafa. This is the thinking of the worldly human side, manifest in this human place. Yet it's reversed on the other side. Whoever supports Dafa or advocates for Dafa is establishing for himself his being's existence in the future and is laying a foundation for obtaining the Fa in the future.”
As I understand, clarifying the truth and leading people to support Dafa in various respects has great significance. It relates not only to our own consummation, but also to how people of the future will attain Dafa. This embodies the boundless compassion and suffering of our Master who has arranged all this, and at the same time it manifests the tremendous compassion and power of Dafa. In order to do all this well as Fa-rectification disciples, we must hold compassion in our hearts as the starting point.
Thanks to our Master’s boundless compassion,
Feel the firmament and nurture everything with benevolence,
Enlighten the compassionate heart as a disciple,
Assist Teacher to save sentient beings with compassion.
