Clarifying the Truth is Not Lecturing on Dogma but Cultivating

Dafa disciples are one body. Therefore, I went to Texas before the chief agent of evil's visit to the United States (U.S.). There was a lot of Fa rectification work still to be done that called for additional practitioners. It was a strenuous, substantial, and memorable cultivation experience for me. I thank Master and all of the fellow practitioners who provided this opportunity. In my personal opinion, if I had not gone to Texas, it would have created an imperfection in my cultivation history. Master said, "The complex environment, in my view, is instead a good thing. The more complex it is, the greater the persons it will produce. If one can elevate oneself above and beyond it, one's cultivation will be the most solid."(From: Zhuan Falun)

I arrived in Texas on October 1, 2002, to begin 26 days and nights devoted to Fa-rectification. It made me realize more clearly the solemnity of cultivation and the Fa. Also, this experience demonstrated the importance of studying the Fa well in the face of the battle between right and evil in Texas. During this time, I yearned for the Fa to a degree I have never experienced before. In order to have enough time to study the Fa and practice the exercises, I got up at 4:00 a.m. each morning, and after this started the activities of Fa rectification in the daytime hours. I tried to use all my spare time to study the Fa. I continually told myself to keep calm, clear-headed, and take the Fa as teacher at all times.

Six months prior to the chief agent of evil's visit to Texas, the evil forces started to assemble. A lot of work aimed against Dafa and welcoming the chief agent of evil had already been done in the Chinese segment of the society. For example, there were free concerts for several thousand people and countless free movie shows and parties for several hundred people. The subsidy fee for students and the activity fees for the student union were distributed to students in its entirety, which has never been done before. Furthermore, the students received a notice saying they would have free roundtrip air tickets if they were willing to attend the salute to the chief agent of evil, and so on. A lot of people were confused by the evil's temptations and slanderous nature.

If we want to save the students here from the misunderstandings flung at Dafa by the chief agent of evil's regime, and have the students understand the truth, I believe we must start clarification with the head of the overseas Chinese communities and the leaders of the student unions. I suggest that they could browse our websites so they would know more about us. Most of them are well educated and are well known people in their communities. Besides, many of the heads of overseas Chinese communities are in their fifties and very successful in their careers. Their experiences have made them overconfident, which makes clarifying the truth certainly difficult. Thus, a practitioner must reconsider the method as well as the angle of the conversation to best clarify the truth.

The difference between clarifying the truth this time and in the previous situations is one of urgency. How can we utilize the limited time to help more people realize the truth? With regard to persons with special status, I understood clearly that it would not only further the evil's rampant arrogance, but also poison more sentient beings if they did not know the truth. I believe Dafa cultivation transcends everyday people. It is holy in offering salvation to sentient beings and nothing can stop this.

In order to save time, I adopted the method of contacting them via the phone for clarifying the truth. To get them to listen to me does not involve the ordinary people's problem of speaking skills, but rather a skillful use of tone of voice. This is to let the opposite side feel fortunate and eliminate the evil in the other dimensions with our Dafa disciple's righteous thoughts and compassionate intent to save sentient beings. At the same time, we still have to let him feel respected without losing respect for Dafa. After I paid attention to this, in front of their acid-tongued language and teasing tone, my power of 'ding' (quiet mind) made the wisdom of a Dafa disciple come into play.

A Dafa disciple's righteous thoughts and the compassionate desire to save sentient beings has the effect of settling the other person's inner doubt and dissatisfaction with benevolent solutions. They can then receive the stateliness and compassion of Dafa. Then, their misunderstanding towards Dafa disappears. My tone, voice, and the angle of my answers to their questions made them become filled with admiration towards Dafa. One of them said, "Falun Dafa is pretty good. I would like to learn from you now." While another person told me he would read Zhuan Falun. A third person said, "I am sorry I misunderstood you." A leader of the student union said with grief, "We perhaps have helped a tyrant to do evil as accomplices." After my clarifying the truth with them, 100 percent of them changed their personal point of view towards Dafa.

In clarification work I found three types of people:

1. Those persons who absolutely deny any other point of view other than their own. They offer their judgments based on so-called demonstrated science even after browsing our websites, thus wrongly commenting on Master and the Fa;
2. Those persons who had no spare time to have the conversation; and
3. The persons who stop the conversation once the reference to Falun Gong was made.

Here are four actual summaries of conversations involving these three types of people.

Conversation I: I spoke to man who is head of the overseas Chinese community. He is in his 50's and his father was a senior cadre. I called his cell phone and told him I am a Falun Gong practitioner, and I would like to have his opinion of Falun Gong. He said, "I have nothing to say. After experiencing the Culture Revolution, I would not like to be fettered by anything. The U.S. is afraid of China becoming powerful. You have made use of this to claim our own country as not being good. What do you gain from this? You are able to practice Falun Gong, thus practice at home, as who will stop you from doing so? Why do you protest our country's leader by following him? He later stated that his major was in physics. He says that physics cannot recognize a light-year as a unit of time or distance and disputed what he believed Master had written about the subject. He referred to Master negatively in his comments. You claim he is a Buddha? He talked cynically for twenty minutes.

I cautioned myself not to interrupt him, and not to listen to him impulsively. After he finished talking, I talked to him with a peaceful and an positive attitude. I told him that I respect the well educated very much, and I would like to talk with you because you are rational and cannot treat matters blindly. But, have you considered that Falun Gong has accumulated more that one hundred millions people, including experts and scholars from all professions within a few years. It has broken the boundaries of race, country, religion, and language, and has received more than one thousand awards from over sixty countries. Is this a simple thing? An expert from any field has his limitations, cannot cover everything, and another specialty might be an unknown realm to him. Then can he comment as he will? Can he deny other specialties at will? Is it reasonable to revere his supervisor in his field? Who can embrace all in the boundless universe? Then is it required that the teachers in some specialties must receive recognition from others?

The reason science can develop is that humans keep finding new realms, but it needs restudying during the process for them to be accepted. And that takes time. People are in the process of understanding Falun Gong. The rumor mongering faked propaganda has deceived a lot of kind-hearted people. Falun Gong is a good exercise to benefit people both physically and mentally, and it was made public as a form of qigong in this early stage. It is not a general qigong for keeping fit, but a cultivation method. Cultivation is higher than ordinary people, therefore not all the people can accept it. Falun Gong is rooted in the culture of ancient China with the principle of Truthfulness, Compassion, and Forbearance, and to cultivate is to become a selfless enlightened person. A person enlightening through cultivation is what we refer to as a Buddha. "Buddha" is from an ancient Indian language and was coined in the East. Falun Gong is a superior science and so it can attract specialists and scholars from all areas. It explains the profound meanings in a simple way and is therefore suitable for all ages. Falun Gong is the essence of Chinese culture, and the pride of the Chinese nationality. Just think, what else can have such an inclusive and centripetal force in today's world where human morals are falling down?

Many Falun Gong practitioners being tortured in Mainland China have been arrested at home. Now, in any other country you can see people doing the exercise in the parks. Can any dictator inflict himself because he feels uncomfortable in seeing the exercise? I think you can identify with what I am saying as a well-educated person. As to the peaceful appeals in the countries that the Chinese leader is visiting abroad, every one experiencing the Culture Revolution knows that the family members of those senior cadres were embroiled, and no one dared to say a fair word for them when they were knocked down. Didn't they hope those sticks being lifted against them could have been seized or fallen down lightly? Didn't they hope someone would say something fair for them? We Falun Gong practitioners' are appealing overseas for such a purpose. Why can't it be understood when a similar thing is happening to Falun Gong practitioners? We have the same Master, and cultivate the same Dafa. Who else will speak for us if we keep silent? Our peaceful appealing is only practicing the exercise and holding the banner that say "Falun Dafa is Good" and "Stop Persecuting Falun Gong." We would like to let the Chinese leader know that Falun Gong includes five sets of exercises and one book. We hope they can bring back the correct message to force the dictator to stop persecuting Falun Gong. Is it too much to call for justice when there is injustice? We appeal to governments of all countries for the same purpose of forcing the dictator to stop persecuting Falun Gong through international consensus.

I talked for more than an hour, and he listened quietly until his cell phone battery run out. I said I was sorry for forgetting I was using up his cell phone. He answered, "Don't mention this, you are very nice person. It is me who did not understand you and have said some things irreverently. We should respect each other. Your Master is really extraordinary. I hope you can cultivate well."

Conversation II: A chairman of a student union at a university and had worked with the embassy to attack Falun Gong. He also helped to arrange the attack on the Falun Gong picture exhibition. I could not catch him for many days. Finally around 7 o'clock one evening I got through his line while he was doing an experiment in the lab. I told him "I would like to talk to you about the Falun Gong issue." He said, "But, I am busy recording the experimental results and have no time. Furthermore, the Falun Gong issue is not my business." I said, "I know you are busy. I have tried to contact you for a few days. I was happy there is an opportunity today to talk to you. I would try to keep the conversation short to minimize the interference to you. The embassy often uses students to have some activities against Falun Gong; therefore, Falun Gong does concern you. I am not asking you to practice Falun Gong, but want to help you understand Falun Gong. Otherwise, you would not know which attitude you should have in the Falun Gong issue, like the picture exhibition you have worked against." He said. "It is our freedom in the west for you to practice Falun Gong and for me to take pictures." I said, "Freedom in the west is freedom under the control of the law. And its law does not allow instigating hatred, which will result in the instability of society. Falun Gong as a belief is under the protection of the law, and what you have done has already hurt us. Similarly, the embassy utilizing you to take pictures and videos of Falun Gong is disobeying the western law. But there has not even been one case of a student being sued by Falun Gong practitioners in the west. Do you know the reason? It is because it would hurt the student. As a foreign student, he will take the risk of deportation if he violates the law. As a new immigrant, he will have a black spot on his whole life affecting his future if he violates the law. Falun Gong practitioners understand that the students are being used." His attitude changed a bit, but still said with choppy logic that he was a student in science and some other sentence irreverent to Fa and Master. I said, "There were experts and scholars in every area among Falun Gong Practitioners, some of them are successful famous persons, and some are the scholars with the same major as you. You might well discuss with them how they started to practice Falun Gong." (I was suggesting that someone else is more competent to talk to him about this subject.) At that moment, his attitude changed completely.

Then I asked him, "Can you explain what helping a tyrant to do evil is? A perpetrator is different from the person who incites others to kill people. Instigating killing could cause countless deaths, and this is called helping a tyrant to do evil. Some were doing it intentionally while others were doing it unintentionally, but the result will be the same. When the human law cannot restrict and punish human being, heaven will punish the human being by the visitation of providence and accidents that are unexplainable by human beings. All inevitable results are chosen by human beings. There was an old saying in Northern China that one should keep away from bad things. I then told him what happened after the chief agent of the evil visited Germany and Iceland, and the story of the Chinese professor's family dying in an accident in Iceland. We talked for more than thirty minutes. Finally he said, "I believe in comeuppance, we might play a role in helping a tyrant to do the evil as accomplices."

Conversation III: When I was talking to another leader of an overseas Chinese community, he said immediately, "Falun Gong is canvassing for money. You have been used by the U.S. and Taiwan to attack our own country. Taiwan has provided you with money and invested in your broadcasting station. Otherwise, where could you get the money to broadcast two hours a day, etc?" I told him, "I am a Canadian overseas Chinese. In Canada and in mainland China, some say the U.S. provides Falun Gong with money, while in the U.S., they claim it is from Taiwan. All the rumors are from the same source, that being the Chinese government. Because the Chinese living in U.S. know the U.S. government, so they claim the money has to come from the Taiwanese government.

In fact, you have been blinded on the Falun Gong issue. Seemingly, it is Chinese government persecuting Falun Gong. Actually, all organizations from the top down in China have been utilized by a guy who has filched China's top position. China has power politics, and the top authority controls everything. All the movements after the nation was founded have been used to serve personal spite. The country has met with disaster and people have suffered from the disaster. Finally the person used becomes the scapegoat. The disaster in our nation resulted because we could never be clear-minded and added fuel to the fire so as to have a vicious circle, and the monster is in power. Thus, the faithful good people were murdered. The foe was taken for their father. This has brought calamity to the country and the people.

Falun Dafa is practice for mind and body based on the higher principle of Truthfulness, Compassion, and Forbearance. Those who have obtained it are delighted with it. The number of cultivators is increasing daily and becoming countless. It cannot be harmful but only bring benefits to individuals, families, societies, and countries. This is the reason why practitioners inside China can sacrifice their lives for it, and practitioners overseas can contribute everything to the extreme. What we have spent on Dafa was from ourselves. We are bosses and workers. The rich give money and the capable ones contribute with his or her abilities. Therefore, our fortune is unlimited, and its utilization endless. This is not understood by the world, thus the rumor has its market. I tell you that a practitioner from Texas uses her own savings to handle the broadcasting station with the expending of nearly 6000 US$ every month for more than one year until now. And she had to work to maintain her life. Do you believe this? I was shaken when I heard this first time. I asked her the motivation of doing this. She said, "She hoped more people understand Falun Dafa is good, and be aware of the situation of Falun Gong being persecuted in China, and to end the persecution at an early date."

With this fact, were you saying that they had been used by others to do something harmful to the country? We were all far away from our country. Only we can understand what the international image of our country means to us. Saying something bad about one's country is humiliating one's own personality. But, Falun Gong has spread to more than sixty countries with over one thousand awards. Aren't these countries and their people fools?"

After being silent for a few minutes, he said, "Truthfulness, Compassion, and Forbearance is good. It sounds like I should study Falun Gong." He changed his attitude completely, and then he talked to me like a friend. He said, "In fact, most of our overseas Chinese sympathize with Falun Gong. We gathered feedback on opinions in a meeting at the embassy telling them that it did not have a good impact internationally to crack down on Falun Gong. Because we did not know you well enough, we did not understand some of your activities." And then he told me some of his suggestions for improving our broadcast station and newspaper. He said, "If you have more introductions on how you started to practice Falun Gong on the radio station and newspaper, as well as the true stories of how you have benefited by practicing, it would play an active role for us to understand Falun Gong."

Conversation IV: When I called a powerful woman, her secretary told me her boss was too busy to pick up the phone, and asked me to leave my phone number so the boss could call me back in her free time. I said, "I have something urgent, and I am using my friend's telephone." The secretary then helped me to connect to her line. The first sentence of this strongwoman was, "Please keep it short and direct." I said, "I would like to know your attitude about Falun Gong." She said, "You cannot talk about Falun Gong. This is harassment, and I will sue you." I said, "Please listen to me until I finish. If you still think I am harassing you, it will not be too late for you to sue me in the court at that time." I then continued, "The Chinese are a rather big group overseas. Your association is for the Chinese and some of them practice Falun Gong. If they do not share your attitude before they join your association, it will bring trouble in their later affiliation. If acquaintances of each other bring in trouble, then it will be against your original intention in setting up this association.

People inside China all admire us for being able to go abroad. They do not know that we end up suffering pressure in an unknown environment. Your association has provided everyone an environment to make friends and relax, which shows that you are a kind-hearted person." Then she told me her original idea of setting up the association and its situation today. And she asked me, "How did you become interested in Falun Gong?" I said, "Some one gave me the book, Zhuan Falun, and told me it is a very good book and hoped I could look it over. After I finished reading the book, I felt relaxed and happy and admired it. It is like a warm current helping me to walk through the puzzle of this life.

There is medical evidence that the usage rate of the human brain is only 30% even for a famous scientist. After practicing Falun Gong, the inner environment is in its high point, and the usage rate of the brain can be 100%. Thus, tough projects can be finished easily. This is one of the reasons it attracts many experts and scholars." Our conversation had then lasted 30 minutes. Finally, she exclaimed, "Oh, it is this way. I have not understood those well-educated people practicing Falun Gong. Thanks for calling. You are totally different from the Falun Gong practitioner in my mind. Because I am pretty busy right now, I cannot speak with you for a long time. Please call me back at 8 o'clock in the evening if possible, I would like to talk more with you."

During the process of my clarifying the truth, many people said, "You are a very nice person and what you have said lets me feel comfortable. But, other conversations I have had with other practitioners make it sound like only practitioners are the good persons and the non-practitioners are the baddies." I explained, "They might have been too anxious to let you know what they had experienced from Falun Gong. Everything has a process. Please forgive our shortcoming in this process." They could understand every time when I explained it like this.

People can feel the compassion from Dafa disciples from our tone and voice. Our comportment represents Dafa. If we all can pay attention to this and take responsibility to Dafa into account, we can make things in Fa rectification better. Master has indicated in his scripture "Righteous Thoughts," "Dafa disciples are now sentient beings only, sole hope for salvation."

There were a lot of touching stories of clarifying the truth in this special environment and special moment in Texas. It is impossible for me to tell each one. The most important conclusion for me is that clarifying the truth is not lecturing on dogma but cultivation. I seem to realize the meaning of settling everything from the origin of life with benevolent solutions. The compassion from Dafa disciple's cultivation is burning all the non-righteous factors in the world. The power of compassion is infinite.

Dear fellow practitioners, we are the disciples of the Great Lord. Let's cherish this eternal predestined relationship! Let's study the Fa well, keep Master's teachings in our mind, and undertake the mission of helping teacher in Fa rectification and saving the sentient beings!
