Experience sharing at the 2009 Washington D.C. Fa Conference
[PureInsight.org] In March 2002, several Dafa practitioners in Jilin Province successfully broadcasted truth clarification information on a local cable television station. The evil was tremendously shocked by that act, and five thousand Falun Gong practitioners were arrested. As overseas practitioners, we can’t just sit and wait and be indifferent to their blatant persecution. We must voice our condemnation and expose the evil. During the past seven to eight years, I have picked up the phone to clarify the truth to people in China, spread the Nine Commentaries, and encourage people to quit the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) organizations.
Calling China to clarify the truth was both a process of validating the Fa and cultivating myself. Every step of the way, I was taken care of by our merciful Master, and every step of the way, He enlightened and guided me. In addition, I relied on the one body cooperation of many practitioners both inside and outside of China. Making telephone calls seems quite easy, and calling from the U.S. to China is very inexpensive when using a phone card. As long as we have a telephone, be it regular phone or cell phone, we can simply dial to get through and start a conversation. There is not much the rogue Chinese Communist government can do about this, as they can’t simply cut off all telephone calls from abroad. Our truth-clarification telephone calls get through easily, and there is nothing the evil CCP can do to block us.
Telephone calls can quickly spread the news to a large area in China and they have a huge impact. Informing the precious Chinese people of the truth about the persecution, civil rights uprisings, the Nine Commentaries, and how to quit the CCP can spread instantly to every single person regardless of social strata, thus creating a profound and lasting impact. For example, when the Nine Commentaries were first published, I immediately told several departments of China Central Television (CCTV), the editorial departments of several CCP magazines, and the editorial offices of provincial newspapers about it, including the section titles of the Nine Commentaries, and asked them to download it from the Internet. I made phone calls to remote areas such as Tibet, Xinjiang, Qinghai, and Ningxia Province to tell them about the quit CCP movement and offer them the opportunity to quit all CCP organizations. I also called far away townships in China and minority communities on mountaintops to help them quit the CCP. My truth clarification calls even reached the border guards in Heilongjiang Province.
Sometimes, before I even finished my words, I could hear the person I was talking to telling people nearby that the phone call was from America, that the CCP is to be eliminated, and that people needed to quit it. It was as if the people receiving the calls couldn’t wait to spread the news. They would also spread the news by word of mouth, reaching unimaginably large areas very quickly. It seem to me that the popularity of telephones today was also arranged by gods, providing the quickest most direct way for Chinese people to learn the truth.
Even though it is quite easy to make phone calls, clarifying the truth clearly and informing people of the true situation is still quite a difficult thing to do. For, in China, people have been brainwashed by the CCP for sixty years. All sorts of evil party ideas and party culture are deeply rooted in peoples’ minds. And they are extremely afraid of the vicious party, so as soon as they hear the truth about Falun Gong and talk of quitting the CCP, they immediately hang up.
When I first started making phone calls, not many would listen to me. I spent more time dialing than talking on the phone. One day, two days, three days passed just like that, and I began to wonder about the reason why no one would talk with me. Should I continue to make phone calls? At that time, I recalled the Fa that Master taught: “Doing but pursuing not, constantly dwelling in Dao” (“In Dao,” Hong Yin). If we do not act and do not tell, how can people come to know the truth? How can we then save people? As long as we act to tell the truth, bit by bit, in cooperation with practitioners both inside and outside China using all our methods of truth clarification, people would be able to go from not understanding to understanding, from not believing to believing. Having enlightened to this, I have continued and persisted in calling Mainland China up to today.
In the past seven years, except for two months when I went to Manhattan to clarify the truth, ten days in New York to sell Shen Yun tickets, and several times when I went to other cities to attend Fa conferences, I have spent the rest of my time making telephone calls [to China]. I have called four hours every night and have never skipped a night no matter how busy or tired I had been during the day. Thank you Master for giving me a healthy body. I have no sickness, am light-bodied, have a complete set of teeth, and never felt tired even though I am 72 years old.
Making telephone calls is a cultivation process, as it targets the human mentality. I talk to dozens of people every day and it feels like I am saying “Falun Dafa is wonderful,” “Truth-Compassion-Tolerance is great” to everyone. It’s evil and sinful that the CCP persecutes Falun Gong, and it’s not accepted by heaven’s mandates. Heaven is determined to eliminate the CCP, and only quitting the CCP will enable a person or the country to be saved; only by quitting the CCP will one be able to obtain peace and security.
When Mainland Chinese practitioners go out to clarify the truth, they really put down the notion of life and death and have only the thought of saving people in mind. When we sit in front of a telephone, even though there is no threat to our life, we hear insults from those who do not know the truth, and hear even very dirty, ugly curses. In the beginning, I couldn’t do it without being disturbed, but gradually, I felt I was no longer forcing myself to endure it, but it just simply didn’t affect me anymore. Once there was a group of people on the other end of the phone. The person who answered the phone turned on the speakerphone so people surrounding him could all listen. After I told them the quitting the CCP information, the first person agreed to quit. I then talked to the next person, and he quit as well. Just then, my zealotry emerged as I began to talk to the third one. To my surprise, this third one jumped on me and started cursing. I did not respond to it. After he cursed for a while he stopped and said, “Do you hear me? I am calling you names.” I did not respond to that, and started immediately to tell him about quitting the CCP. Right away he started cursing again, and after a while he stopped again to ask me, “Do you hear me? You are the one I am calling names.” As soon as he stopped, I again started to tell him about quitting the CCP again. He kept cursing over and over, but I didn’t respond. In the end, he found it boring, so I then started talking to the fourth person. The fourth one quit and so did the fifth one. Later, I thought to myself, “This phone call saved four people, but if I had not endured it and started quarreling with the third guy, the last two would not have been saved.” While he was cursing at me, I really did not have any anger or grievance or any feeling of being wronged. Instead, even though he was cursing me, my mind had been calm and undisturbed.
On another day, when I was talking to someone about heaven’s mandate to eliminate the CCP, he said to me, “Do you know who I am? If I tell you, you may not believe it.” I said to him, there is nothing I dare not believe. Even if you were the president or premier of the country, I would still speak to you all the same. He told me that he had graduated from Tsinghua University and had spent four years in the U.S. working on a doctoral degree and that now he was in very high position. He asked many questions and I answered them all. After about 20 minutes of conversing he said, “I find you a very talented person, would you like to work for me? I can pay you a lot of money, much more than what you earn now.” I said to him, “I have spent my own money calling you, and I am not paid to do so. Even if you offered me a mountain of gold and silver, I would not work for you. Thank you, but I just hope that you will quit the CCP and thus obtain true peace and security.”
I know all wisdom originates from Dafa and that I am only an ordinary retired teacher and don’t have much knowledge by ordinary human society’s standards, but what I told him contained Fa principles above the human realm. That’s why he felt I had ability. But, of course, I am a practitioner, and I would absolutely not be attracted by this kind of thing.
Because of my background as a teacher, I tend to correct others in conversation. When what others have said is not in agreement with my understanding, I often argue with them in an unpleasant tone and with an elevated pitch. When calling late at night, others were affected when I spoke too loudly. My husband often criticized me because of this, and even got mad at me. In the beginning, I thought that I had already paid particular attention to this issue and had indeed lowered my voice. I even hid in the bathroom in order not to disturb him, so why was he so picky? Because we lived in an apartment that didn’t have much soundproofing, people living upstairs also became unhappy and often flushed their toilet in protest. What could I do? I couldn’t stop saving people. I tried to talk in a calm and peaceful manner and I asked Master to make my voice lower but more penetrative. But Master had an even better arrangement—soon, we sold our home at my son’s suggestion and bought a good single-family house at a very good price. Now, I do not disturb others when I make phone calls at night and my competitive mentality has also diminished. I have relinquished some of the human notions, but they still emerge in other situations, so I know that I still have not completely removed them. For example, I sometimes still feel distressed and wronged when encountering obstacles.
Once, I made 60 phone calls one after another, but only one person agreed to quit the CCP. My first thought was, “How come these phone numbers from the Internet are so bad, and who got the good numbers to call?” As soon as this thought emerged I realized, that it was very dirty and selfish. In order to clarify the truth to more people in China, practitioners work day and night to find various ways to do it more quickly and efficiently. Items such as the automated dialers, Big Helper and Little Helper, help us to streamline our work. It is not so easy to find the phone numbers of people who are predestined. However, I have found that I shouldn’t think too much about this and just put my whole heart into saving people. Even if only one out of 60 people is saved, how special is he? He is a person who Master wants to save, and he represents a colossal celestial body, so why do I feel unhappy? Isn’t this a heart of pursuit—seeking gratification and quantity? Isn’t this a heart of doing things for self? After several days, I overcame this notion and everything went back to normal.
Besides making phone calls to clarify the truth, I also clarify the truth to the people around me and advise them about the “three withdrawals.” Whether it is riding on a bus, taking my grandson for a walk in the park, at a family party, or at the “Withdrawing from the CCP” booth in Chinatown, as long as I meet precious Chinese people, I will clarify the truth and advise them to withdraw [from the CCP]. Because I have a heart for saving people, Master always sends people with pre-destined relationships to me. Several times I saw some young Chinese men getting on the bus, and I immediately wished to have them sit next to me. And indeed they did! I chatted with them for a little while and then asked them whether they had read the Nine Commentaries? I gave them the truth-clarification DVD and talked to them about quitting the CCP. By the time the bus has reached their stops, I had created an alias for them, having persuaded them to quit the Party.
Additionally, I ask my son to invite his Chinese friend and Chinese employees for dinner at our home. I then clarify the truth while we eat. By the time they have finished their dinner, they understand the truth and have agreed to the "three withdrawals." Taking my grandson for a walk in the park is also a good opportunity to save people. Many seniors from China come to the U.S. to baby-sit their grandchildren, and I meet many of them in the park. After we get to know each other, I start clarifying the truth to them and advising them on making the "three withdrawals." A retired teacher from Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region talked to me several times. Then his whole family, a total of five people, quit the CCP. A retired cadre from Jiangsu Province brought his wife and another couple from Ningbo City, Zhejiang Province to visit my home after having only known me for a day. After clarifying the truth to them, all four of them quit the CCP.
Master said, “Let me tell you this: next to your own cultivation, currently the most important thing is clarifying the truth, because this is directly saving sentient beings, it's directly saving the people of the future, and it also demonstrates the magnificence of Dafa and Dafa disciples--in such a difficult environment you're still managing to save sentient beings.” (“Fa-Lecture at the Conference in Florida, U.S.A.”)
There were also some times when I didn't do well. Once when I visited someone, my human attachments came out, and I was afraid the host might be unhappy to hear me clarifying the truth, so I didn't clarify the truth to them. There was an old man in his nineties there. After missing this opportunity to hear the truth, he might not have the opportunity again. A classmate of my son came to study at the University of Washington. I gave her the Nine Commentaries but did not advise her on the "three withdrawals" since I thought there was plenty of time to do it later. However, the time flew by and I heard she was returning to China the following day. Whenever I thought about these two incidents, I felt very sorry that I missed these opportunities and didn't save the people who should have been saved. Since then, at whatever time and in whatever location, I always keep righteous thoughts and remind myself that Dafa disciples are the true main players. I will clarify the truth and advise people to quit the CCP whenever I get the chance.
Altogether, through phone calls and face-to-face truth clarification, I have helped more than 10,000 people quit the CCP, the Youth League and the Young Pioneers.
As a result of the telephone calls alone, over 9,200 people have quit the CCP. I know this is because of Master’s mighty mercy, the power of Fa, the result of Dafa practitioners inside and outside of China working together, the inevitable trend of unstoppable Fa rectification moving forward, and the red dragon in the other dimension being uprooted. I am just an ordinary practitioner, “Cultivation depends on one’s own efforts, while the transformation of gong is done by one’s master.” (Zhuan Falun). I am only cultivating along this path and validating the Fa, that’s all. I still have many attachments not yet relinquished. At this ending period of Fa rectification, I will cultivate myself well and diligently, save more sentient beings, and fulfill my grand prehistoric vow.
