As Taiwan becomes increasingly commercial and industrialized, many degenerate notions have crept into the living environment in Taiwan at a number of different levels, including Taiwan's educational system.
From the perspective of education, 100 million people worldwide have already accepted Mr. Li Hongzhi's tutelage and have improved their morals as well as their attitudes toward life. Inspired by the marvelous results of education in Falun Dafa, we decided to establish Minghui Dou Dou Kindergarten in Taiwan and use Falun Dafa's cultivation principles of Truthfulness, Compassion and Forbearance as our pedagogical principles. [Note: Dou Dou means "little sprouting beans" in Chinese, a common metaphor for small children.] Minghui Dou Dou Kindergarten is open Monday through Friday and is a kindergarten licensed under the Department of Education in Taiwan. Most children and their parents did not practice Falun Gong before their children were enrolled in Ming Minghui Dou Dou Kindergarten. This is the first Minghui kindergarten in the world and the first Minghui school in the world where the majority of students were non-practitioners at the time of their initial enrollment.
"Minghui Dou Dou Kindergarten" used to be "Dou Dou Kindergarten." The owners of Dou Dou Kindergarten, Ms. Lu and her husband, heard of Falun Dafa many years ago when the parents of some students graduating from the kindergarten recommended it to them. Due to a number of reasons, Ms. Lu and her husband didn't start to cultivate in Falun Dafa until the beginning of 2003. After that, she immediately started to promote Falun Dafa at her kindergarten. At first, she invited Falun Gong practitioners in the neighborhood to take turns leading the children to study Falun Dafa books and teaching them to practice the Falun Gong exercises at noon. Later Ms. Lu decided to change the name of her school to Minghui Dou Dou Kindergarten, where she could help children and their parents start practicing Falun Gong and facilitate their cultivation in Falun Dafa.
Ms. Lu often watches these children thinking about how fortunate they are to learn Falun Dafa. She has also witnessed the magnificent power of Falun Dafa in their improvements in many aspects. Children will often remind themselves to behave because they know that doing bad things will make them "lose virtue", lose "white substance" (virtue) and increase the "black substance" (karma). The teachers at the kindergarten often teach the students to be considerate, to think of others and to seek inward first when encountering a conflict.
The parents of the majority of the students are not Falun Gong practitioners, but they have a very high regard for Falun Dafa after they witnessed the spiritual and physical improvements in their children. Nowadays these toddlers each carry a large copy of Zhuan Falun to school and study it with their teachers. [Note: The children's version of Zhuan Falun has Taiwanese phonetic symbols next to each Chinese character to help children learn to read. It is in large print only, and is bigger and heavier than other all other versions of Zhuan Falun.] At noon the older youngsters volunteer to move all the children's desks and chairs away and to make beds for the nap at noon. After the nap, they get up and quietly wait to start practicing the Falun Gong exercises at noon. The ancient Chinese practice of training children to help with housework is being renewed in Minghui Dou Dou Kindergarten. We hope that in the near future there will be Minghui schools helping children to learn Falun Dafa in each and every country around the world.
