[PureInsight.org] Tais is eight
years old and is a mature girl. She knows her young brother Andrew is
in very poor health, for which the family has exhausted all the money.
Now only an expensive operation will save her brother. Only doing an
extremely expensive surgery now will save her brother, but no one was
willing to lend money to them. She heard her father tell her mother
despairingly: "Only a miracle can save Andrew."
When Tais returned to her room, she carefully took out a glass jar from
a wardrobe. She poured out the coins and counted them three times to
make sure of the exact amount. She put the coins back into the jar and
wrapped the jar in a cap. She sneaked out the back door and headed
towards a drugstore, which has a huge red "Indian Chief" sign.
Tais waited patiently in the drugstore, hoping the pharmacist would
notice her. But he was too busy. She wriggled her feet on the floor to
make noise, but the pharmacist still did not respond. Then she tried
hard to clear her throat to make a coarse sound. There was still no
response.
Finally, Tais took out a coin and knocked on the glass counter. The
pharmacist said angrily: "What do you want? Don't you see I am talking
to my brother from Chicago?"
"Hey, I want to talk to you about my brother," Tais replied with
an equal angriness, "My brother is real sick and I want to buy a
miracle."
"Say that again." The pharmacist requested.
"My brother Andrew has a bad thing in his head. My Dad said only a
miracle can save him, so please tell me how much money is a miracle?"
"We don't sell miracles here, little girl. I am sorry I can not help you." The pharmacist said gently
"Listen to me. I can afford to pay for it. Even I don't have enough, I
will manage to collect it all. Please tell me how much it is for a
miracle."
The pharmacist's brother, an immaculately dressed gentleman, bent down
to ask the little girl: "What kind of miracle do you want?"
"I don't know," Tais said tearfully, "I only know my young brother is
real sick. My Mom said he needs an operation but my Dad has no money to
pay for surgery. I want to use my money to have surgery for my
brother."
"How much money do you have?" The gentleman asked.
"One dollar and eleven cents," Tais's voice almost couldn't be heard.
"That is all I have. But if necessary, I can come up with more."
"Hey, it's really a coincidence," the gentleman smiled, "One dollar and eleven cents is exactly the amount to buy a miracle."
He took the money from Tais in one hand and held Tais's hand with
other, "Take me to your home. I want to see your brother and your Dad
to see whether I have the miracle you need."
This gentleman was Dr. Carlton Armstrong, a neurosurgical specialist.
Andrew had the surgery and returned home for recovery.
Tais's parents were immensely happy. Her mother said: "It is a real
miracle. I really would like to know how much the miracle was."
Tais smiled. She knows the miracle cost exactly one dollar and eleven cents.
